How would hollywood justify a big budget action movie without some great explosions, car chases (and crashes) and many, many guns? That's no fun.
If they had to do a big-budget karate/martial arts movie, then it will all look like crouching tiger hidden dragon.
Besides, not all hollywood stars are that limber/stretchy/bouncy. It's not that easy to do a half-spinning-kick-while-drinking-a-latte move on a daily basis.

Martial arts and films which include boxing etc like rocky, bruce lee movies etc come under a different category of action. Whereas "Action" movies will use weapons etc. Your right though, i prefer movies where there isnt weapons, and more to do with actual fighting.

At first I did'nt like the question. But, I'll admit your right. It's getting to be pretty boring seeing these gigantic automatics that only the military knows about to shoot a simple scene. If you want to see a pretty well shot shootout scene of the '40's see "Black Delila". A couple of tough L.A. cops shoot it out with some thugs on the back streets. Very realistic, especially the actual sounds of a Police .38. But I've got to admit the Wilshire Blvd. shootout scene with DeNiro, kilmar,et al against the LAPD was ******* excellent in "HEAT". " RONAN" had some pretty true to action gunfight scenes in it too;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;

Not all of them do. When the Charlie's Angels movies came out, they made a big deal about the fact that they didn't use guns. Jackie Chan's movies also don't use weapons (but they're also more comedy-oriented).

I agree. A gun can neutralize the best martial artist. You need to go to movies made in the orient to get pure martial art, but even these look very fake at times.

Because guns made the USA free, because we have them and will not give them up and we like to see snot nosed dumb *** punks get there just at the end of one.
Guns do not kill people. People kill people.
Few years back while doing some research for a psychology class I found out that only 11% of crimes were commited with fire arms- all crimes. I found it funny that more people were killed in criminal acts with vehicles then guns.
Sadly, what killed all those people in Virgina was a lack of concern, caring, and perception. If people would just talk to one another, listen and care, but today its not about others- its about ME!
"Enough about me, on me, what do you think about me?"
When someone needs a shoulder, people say- "buck up, life is hard," and crap like that.
Leave guns out of it

Because that would be a martial arts movie -- they're usually considered two separate genres.

Because, medieval movies would not seem authentic, if the melee scenes showed the combatants using linked sausages instead of maces.

Because they want the "R" rating so they are able to supposedly draw a larger audience and that's all. It all boils down to the almighty dollar. Sick, isn't it? Real men don't need guns.
