It depends on which legendary that you want and the Pokemon exclusive to each game. Also, if you have fire red and not leaf green, but might want to get Pearl because a lot of Pokemon exclusive to Green are going to be in Pearl. However, with the wi-fi trading and battle you can trade Pokemon online, making it easier to complete your pokedex.
Personally, I'm getting Diamond, because the legendary that you can catch in that game is a powerful dragon/steel type and I like some of the Pokemon exclusive to that version. I'll eventually get Pearl though.

I think guys would say diamond, which is what I like better. Girls would probably say pearl. But they are the same game, it just depends on what legendary you want, and which Pokemon you want to be able to catch in the game.
