I would say Centrino 2 Duo would be better.

As Intel is ahead in Dual Core Technology.

I have a Turion X2 64bit 1.66ghz Dual Core Laptop

and its pretty darn fast too. I would say centrino duo is better though.

Be sure to look at gfx card too. dont get Intel gfx

Here's the best site I know to compare the processor speeds:
http://www23.tomshardware.com/cpu.html?modelx=33&model1=432&model2=436&chart=173

But honestly, I don't think this should be the deciding factor! The speed difference is actually a minor consequense. I would look at the laptop and choose the one that has the bestter overall features that you are looking for like:
-built in wireless
-7200rpm hard drive
- Vista compatible (even if you install XP)
-express port
-screen size and vividness
-overall build of laptop
-reliability
-warranty
-memory
-video card
etc
The processor speed is not nearly as important as it used to be.
