Several people at work say to me all the time "smile" and they do and say things to try and get me to smile, sometimes it works but most of the time it doesn't. If I don't feel like smiling then what is this big deal to others that I should be smiling?

I can smile and when I feel like it I do it!

For some reason, this only happens to women. People feel that a woman/girl needs to smile all the damn time and be pretty. Just ignore them. If I smiled all the time people would have me committed.

People at work always say the same thing to me also, but I totally agree why smile if you don't feel like it. Pretending to be happy and having fun doesn't help anyone. So don't smile if you don't feel like it. But don't go to work every day being depressed, angry, or sad they might think something is wrong with you.

Usually when there is one person grumpy in the area or group, it tends to bring everyone else down.. smiles are contagious as well as frowns... No one wants to be around grumpy people. Everyone has their good and their bad days.. No one can be HAPPY all the time.. Especially those really perky people that are early risers and are just so durn perky.. makes ya wanna smack em hahaha! Next time someone tells you to smile.. ask them to frown. And if they ask you why do you want me to frown for.. then reply well, you wanted me to smile for you so hurry up and frown and leave me the heck alone.

EXACTLY!!! When I feel like smiling, damnit I'll smile. Why in the hell should I go around smiling like a grining idiot just because others feel that I should be smiling. I used to have people tell me to smile too, and that just makes me frown even more. And the biggest piece of BS is that when I do smile at someone they do not smile back--so what's the point! UGHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!! I hate people.

people say that to me all of the time. It bothers me too. I smile enough. I have a great sense of humor, but I just don't smile for no reason at all. I am with you on this one.

Because most of the world is doped-up on happy pills and walk around in a perpetual state of glee. They're like zombie robots. Happy Happy Happy!

I don't walk around smiling all the time either... it's unnatural.

I suggest you change to a cheerful contenance before people put that long drawn sallow look of yours on the back of a milk carton with "Missing! Smile Missing!"
