In particular , the part where it states "We have the right to bear arms" judging by what happened in Virginia Yesterday, this is ONE part that should be written out of the constitution.
Why as Americans do you believe you have this right to bear arms , it makes no sense to me.
Why do you believe you need guns as citizens? surely this perpetuates violence .Why do regular households NEED guns ? it's totally ridiculous , and no one says anything because they perceive they are being unpatriotic if they challenge anything in the constitution....mmaybe the founding fathers just got this part of the constitution wrong. I'm sure they never intended for this to happen whn they wrote that into the constitution.........People have misused this clause ......Please No more school shootings ,it's getting way out of hand.

Colin S I agree with you , I grew up in England ,and never knew anyone who owned a gun. They give me the creeps.
People seem to panic in America, about NOT being able to own a gun...I seriously don't get this . British people as a rule don't own guns , neither do eurpeans ,I guess I just don't get this overwhelming NEED for one.
As for Old Guy..Thankyou for proving my point so elequently. You say People with guns are the only way to have a peaceful society....then you threaten to put a bag over my head and tie it with duct tape ....peace ful eh?? hmmm I don't think so. You are one person that should NEVER own a gun, and thank you once more for proving my point....Guns breed a violent mind and heart.

At the Appalachian School of Law shooting in 2002. A disgruntled student killed two students before he was killed by two other students with their personal firearms.

Keep in mind that the Constitution was largely composed by greedy slaveowners bent on using genocide to take over an entire continent.
While most of the Constitution is a collection of pretty words that even the writers didn't believe in, the Second Ammendment stands out as a particularly poorly written piece, If, and that is a big if, it held any understandable meaning two centuries ago, it is certainly time to trash it now. Don't expect that to happen, at least anytime soon.
The US gun lobby fronts a culture that celebrates death and worships the gun as a substitute phallus to make up for their unsure sense of manhood.
Our gun laws are a joke to much of the civilized world. If we are to remain hostages to the Second Ammendment, than at the very least we can outlaw automatic weapons and easily concealable handguns. Then the gun nuts could still defend their trailers and kill their dinner with rifles and shotguns which cannot be stashed in a waistband on the next trip to the 7-11.
And to those delusional cowards who claim tragedy could have been averted had everyone been packing, get real!! Virginia Tech would be the OK Corral.
God have mercy on us all

You have got to be from a Country other than the USA. Shut up, stay home, and mind your own business. If guns are outlawed, only bad guys will have them. If you could take all the guns away, bad guys and killers would just use ball-bats, hammers, screwdrivers, knives, vehicles, bricks, and rocks. If someone wants to kill you, they will find a way. How about a plastic bag over your head duct taped around your neck. America has enough gun laws now. If the existing laws were enforced properly, there would not be so many in the hands of criminals. I live in Texas and carry a weapon at all times. An armed society is a polite society and I believe in peace through fire superiority, and I damn sure don't need anyone telling me how to live.

Wishing .. "mmaybe the founding fathers just got this part of the constitution wrong.." please do not confuse what the was going on in 1776 with what happens today. The founding fathers had good reason to put this in the Constitution.
Have times changed? Yes. "People have misused this clause " No. Do we need to revamp the gun control? Yes.
But it is very complex.
Sad as it seems the student at VTech had left bomb threat notes behind. If he had not used a gun - worse case is he would have constructed a bomb or two. And kids can construct them, with simple instruction found almost everywhere.
Mental health is an issue this country and others need to have a real hard look at.

You said, "Guns breed a violent mind and heart"
To respond I say, guns in the wrongs hands enable a person whose heart and mind are already violent.
The problem with your argument is that, if all citizens are banned from having guns, those that want to break the law will find a way to get guns, which leaves the law abiding citizens defenseless against them.
I think the forefathers of America got it right. They knew, witnessed, and experienced crime back then as well. If someone tried coming into their home to rape their wife, and kill their children, they had a means as we do to prevent that from happening. How often can you bargain peace out of someone that wants to kill you? We have the freedom and the right to defend ourselves, and the lives of others.
I have a feeling that if some of those students had guns, this madman wouldn't have killed as many as he did today. It's not the law abiding citizens that keep and bear arms that are the problem. It's the ones that choose to break the law that are.

Well, as a brit I have never understood the need of Americans to carry guns.
Yes, we have gun crime over here but not nearly as much as in America. The difference is that we don't have a constitutional right to bear arms. Maybe your constitution is out of date and doesn't fit in with 21st century morality?
I also saw an old gentleman on TV today, I think he was in Buffalo and something to do with the gun lobby in America, oh well, anyway, he said that if all the students had been armed the shootings might not have happened at all, how does that work exactly?
I figured that if all the students had been armed, in the ensuing panic even more needless deaths might have occurred.
Finally I would just like to add my condolences to the families and friends of the students who lost their lives. God bless them

Do you recall that the US was attacked on US soil in 2001, and that attempts after that have been foiled?
And it's not going to stop soon. The global conflict is just going to get worse for some time.
And it isn't just nations that can be our enemies now; other groups are infiltrating the US.
This is not a good time to deprive citizens of the right to bear arms. The very situation envisioned by the founders may be coming, when we will have to fight on our own soil.

When guns are outlawed only outlaws will have guns. All of the worlds oppressed peoples do not or have not had the means to defend themselves. Where people have the means to defend themselves oppression rarely survives long. I don't know where you come from but I strongly suspect you are here because you wish to enjoy the freedoms that Americans enjoy. Of course you could be a terrorists and are afraid Buba will get you before you can carry out your terrorist acts, but probably not. There is a cost for freedom. Atrocities here and abroad only occur where honest citizens can not defend themselves. What happened in Virginia is just another example of this.

It doesn't need to be written out of the Constitution; it was about maintaining a militia, not about individual gun ownership.
What we do need are stricter gun laws. Or better yet (and this was offered as a joke but it makes incredible sense), since the guns are already out there, we should regulate bullets.
Yes, bullets. People would still be able to own their guns for protection (and the chance that someone would use a gun to protect their home is small, so bullet useage would be minimal), and we wouldn't have assault weapons out there tearing up dozens of people.

Well one thing you have to realize is that the guns are already out there and the bad people arn't going to give up their guns. If the good people give their guns to the government and the bad people still have theirs then we are all defenceless. Plus I live out in the middle of no where with a seven month old baby and my husband works long hours...if someone attacked us how could I defend myself other wise?

Wake UP. We want our guns to protect our families from the criminals, we have that right to protect ourselves. The students in the schools need to learn how to DEFEND themselves. Leave our Constitution alone, it is already being dismantled by people that don't care about our freedoms. The schools will be like the airport. Stand in line.
