The fear among “Asian” students at VT rises-------very afraid to be identified same as that of “Asian shooter”. It is no less than the anger rising among the non-Asian students.
Monday afternoon, the rumor ”a Chinese student from Shanghai did it” slipped into campus, widespread fast by sunset.
In face of a possible immediate retaliation from angry crowd, as a parent--------with a full and genuine feelings towards the victims’ parents, should I worry about the safety of my kid?
If he knew the shooter’s identity early on, should he have obligation to make it known in order to alley the unnecessary rumors, which could result in violence against innocent foreign students at VT.
These are the Fact:
The Korean Times confirmed that the shooter’s parents were contacted Monday night. So, the shooter identity was likely already known by the Monday afternoon.(See the Korean Times: http://www.koreatimes.co.kr/)

You have very good point. That Jamail Cell video(posed at CNN) actually show police shooting at outside. Most of those 27 shots NOT fired inside. Question is : the police was shooting at whom? Or at chained door?

I doubt there's enough anti chinese feeling around to spark the kind of retaliation you're talking about. Anti oriental feeling, rather.
Also, identities in cases like this tend to be held back until the next of kin can be properly notified.
This is because, In the past, when family members first discovered horrific things about their near and dear, from watching sensationalistic coverage of the gruesome events on teevee, there tended to be some pretty bitter complaints about that. Go figure.
Granny: He had 2 guns, a 22 walther and a Glock 19.

I understand your concern. But I think VT did the best they could under the circumstances.
It's customary for the names of victims and perpetrator, especially when killed, to be with held from the media until family can be notified.
Just think if, god forbid, he was your kid, and every one knew about it before you?
I also understand your fear for your child and other Asian students, but I don't think their will be any problems; especially on VT's campus. I think the students and staff on that campus especially, have pulled together.
This isn't a case of a group, and we know who the shooter is, that he acted alone, and he isn't going to do anymore harm to anyone else.
And the other harsh facts are this:
Even if they had said he was Korean, or Japanese, or Vietnamese, every Asian person would still have been looked at with an eye of suspicion, because, as much as I hate it myself, I have heard many people call any Asian person they see "Chinese."
Personally I think that sticks, but that's how it is. I always try and ask if I don't know someone's heritage because I don't want to make assumptions about anyone.

Lol, thats the asian aspect. when it comes to violence, they either do all they could to avoid a fight, or they would Krate Chop ur neck and woop ur azz.
I think you guys should stop these racist remarks. look at the big picture, are most violent act commited in the US are by Asian? I felt like we are the least crime commiting ethnic group.
However, some asian people atually belief it is atually a good thing, far as it goes, we are being feared, and not hated.

This story is not being told, right, as there wasn't anyone left to tell what REALLY happened. How could he kill so many people with a 22 ??? There is something being hidden about this story. They need to stop teaching the students "fear", someone could have jumped this killer, and didn't.

The Va. Tech President and the campus police did what they thought was best at the time. They released information when they thought it to be appropriate.

There will be plenty of time to ask these questions. Until the killer was identified, people should have stayed away from the school anyway. It's just prudent.
