No. Hitting a Major League fastball is well-known in the sports world to be the hardest thing in sports to do.

Hardly. Yes, there are some who aren't in the best shape, but to hit .300 takes incredible hand-eye coordination. It's said to be the most difficult thing to do in sports. Hitting a ball 400+ feet take tremendous strength from the entire body. Pitching 7 or 8 or 9 innings is an amazing feet of endurance. Look at pretty much any of the top 80% of players and you are going to find an amazing athlete. Quite a few major leaguers were also drafted by the NFL or the NBA.

Most people would say that playing baseball is easy, and you don't need the body to succeed. WRONG. Playing baseball requires tip-top shape with great speed on the bases or fielding, strength to hit an way inside pitch from a line drive, or even a home run, agility to delay steal, coordination for hitting and catching. The stronger the person, the better the person hits, pitches, throws, and run. Without these aspects, you won't become a successful player.

Is asking this question another way of saying "I don't know what the hell I'm talking about"? Most major league players are in great physical condition, there are a few exceptions: Curt Schilling and David Wells come to mind. But to say that its a general rule that baseball players are out of shape athletes is completely wrong.

Nope. If you knew anything about baseball, which obviously you don't, you would know baseball players work year round to stay in shape. They have to. When you can sprint from home to first four times a game (without collapsing), jump over a sliding baserunner, while throwing a ball to first base, or running down in the ball in the outfield, they you can talk about others being out of shape. Your question is ridiculous. You may not like baseball, but that's no reason to ask immature, moronic questions like that.

Dumb question... some baseball players, for the most part pitchers, seem out of shape. But they need only to really work their arms... Look at offensive linemen in football.... they would seem out of shape on paper, but it is their job to be big men. If someone is truly out of shape they would not be on a major league roster. You have no clue what you are talking about.

No. Every sport has players who look "out of shape" but very few actually are. (I'm just picking one person and not targeting anyone) Baseball: Big Pappi Football: Larry Allen Basketball: Shaq

Not everyone is John Kruk, Tony Gwynn or Kirby Puckett (whose weight caused his far-too-early death).

Now, if you honestly think that ballplayers aren't athletes, try actually watching a game once in a while. You'll see players routinely doing things that not only can't be done by non-athletes, but can't be done by many other athletes, either. Just ask Michael Jordan.

lets see you run 100 meter in under 11 seconds and then we'll talk. Or maybe hit a ball 400 feet.
