It shouldn't hurt as long as your partner is gentle with you & makes sure you & your body are ready for intercourse.
That's why you should make sure it's a long term relationship (someone, who loves & respects you), since one night stands won't care how ready your are or not.
You want it to be special. You want to be initimate with someone, who you've known for a long time, who knows you.

My first time did not hurt at all. In fact, it was kind of a let down after I had all these expectations. The reason why it didn't hurt me was because
(1) I used tampons
(2) There was a lot of foreplay so the muscles down there were able to relax.
The thing to remember is for your first time just take it slow. If it hurts then stop, and try again either straight away or a bit later. Could also try doing different positions. Know your body also, getting a mirror and experimenting down there will help your body prepare for sex.

I can't say I recall it hurting... I guess every woman is different.
If you think it will hurt, then I guess it will for you. I never considered pain... so it didn't hurt for me. And you don't sound like an idiot... when you have a question, you need to ask those who have been there already. Only stupid question is the one not asked.

It is a pleasurable pain...it's like you want it, but yet you don't at the same time. The pain does not last long, there will be a little bit of blood, but nothing like having your period. I think it is different for everyone. Also, I think it may hurt more if you are not relaxed your first time because your muscles will be extra tight.

My first time, it didn't hurt at all. It felt weird, but didn't hurt.
Then, We broke up, and I got a little tipsy (aka, smashed) and had a "revenge f00k" with someone else. The difference between the two of them, is the "revenge" guy was much bigger around.
HE broke my hymen.
That time, it hurt. It was kinda like getting cut, only in a very sensitive place...

It didn't hurt me at all, but pain "down there" usually feels very strange, almost like you're not sure where it hurts. It's sort of half-numb, half painful.

It's not so much painful as it is very uncomfortable. Just make sure whomever you are with for the first time is very gentle and willing to take it slow.

if you have to ask, most likely you are too young to know....anyways, it hurts a lot.... and if you are young... wait. viginity is something you cant get back. it's something that sets you aside from all others, and it is so precious... hold onto it for as long as you can...
trust me, once sex becomes a part of any relationship, thats when the drama comes along....lol
