Because medicine is not an exact science. It IS rather scary when you put it that way!

Really the term 'practice' can be used for any profession, as you should always be honing your skills. I can see how it could be slightly disturbing when used in the medical field.

why shouldn't they? Problem is you have a very narrow definition of practice....
