Because he was inspired by Columbine right? Does more of these mass murders cause other people to get ideas?

We don't know if he took any of his inspiration from Columbine, because we really don't know much about his motives.

Mass murders have been around for a long time, and--while this one has had the most victims of any of them--they aren't precedent setting in most respects.

The U-T tower shooting in 1966 was actually a closer precedent to the V-T shooting spree. In each case a single demented individual killed himself and took a number of other people with him. Charles Whitman, the U-T tower shooter, killed 16 people, including his wife and mother in law.

I don't think we should put too much on the notion that these abherrations inspire other similar events. They are sad and tragic, but each such disaster has a life and timeline of its own, and the causes are often very different.

We might do well to research the things that cause people to become so angry they want to cause this much hurt and pain. I have no idea why some people would act this way and on this scale, but that should probably be the thrust of our questions about it.

To suggest one such event inspires other similar events is--I think--far too simple an explanation of why they happen. Many other things have to come into play.

The Virginia mass murders happened because the guy flipped out of his mind..probably pushed to the max by a combination of emotional problems exacerbated by the same drugs responsible for numerous other school shootings ..usually by much younger perpetrators -
and authorities who failed to shut-down or alert students & faculty that a killer was in their midst . It was the least they could have done..especially in light of recent bomb threats .

I don't think there has been any evidence he was inspired by Columbine... I don't think he was inspired by anything, he was an incredibly angry and alone young man with disturbing behavior. I can only hope these events don't happen again, but I doubt it.

We don't know if he was inspired by Columbine. There is always the fear of copycats but I'll try not to worry about it.

with all the media attention about the shooter.
OF COURSE.....

when media stops and remembers the true story.
i don't care to look at his picture.
why does media almost give them a place in history
more than what he did.....

he killed people, he hurt people. he did affect the whole
but i prefer to never forget the Virginia Tech shootings.
and how innocent people died and where hurt.

we need to learn. tell us the shooters story.
don't put his picture out there for us to see......

I think so, and I think some of the nuts will try to kill more and more people to try and one-up the others.
