mostly, as a DJ i support local fund-raisers or benefits. i've done many of them to help out local families because of whatever caused their suffering. i can actually SEE the result of my charitable actions that way,
i'm saddened tonight by the loss of a close friend who passed quite unexpectedly and i know we'll be holding a benefit on her behalf to help her (unfortunately, unemployed) husband to help him offset the cost of her funeral.
that's the kind of charitable help i can genuinely "feel."

I always donate 3 days pay to the United Way. We can do that through payroll deduction at work (a small amount from each pay during the year) so it doesn't hurt a bit. I also give to the Salvation Army and the SPCA.
