the song iko was actually originally a few chants and catchphrases from 2 indian tribes and was written by James "Sugar Boy" Crawford in 1954. The story is about the spy boy who was to set the flag on fire to warn their tribe of trouble. In 1965 the Dixie Cups were in a recording studio and started singing an offhand version during a break and the recording equipment had been accidently left on and the producers later added bass and drums too it and liked it so they released it
