Well, it's tough to explain the forces that drive mass killings, but one prevailing thought is that, however meticulous these killers are when planning their act, they usually don't make an exit plan. Cho Seung-Hui likely did not consider the aftermath of his shootings and maybe felt he didn't have any other options outside suicide. He may have felt desperate. He may have felt sad, angry, empty. Or maybe he felt nothing at all. And, of course, maybe he planned to kill himself at the end anway. Unfortunately, we will never know.
