My passport expired, so I need a route from Toronto to Vancouver that'll not involve going down to the states.

Follow the Trans Canada Highway number 1.

400 North
TC69 to Sudbury
TC 17 to the Manitoba boarder where it changes to the TC 1

And if you are going this year, you don't need a passport to drive through the US, only if you fly. This year you can still use a driver's license and birth certificate. Having said that, still consider the all Canadian route.

Vancouver, BC you will not be crossing any U.S. borders but assuming you are referring to Vancouver, WA you do not require a passport when travelling via land. Passport regulations is in effect for air and sea travel only. You do need proof of identity as well as citizenship though. Check Canada Border Services for more information.
