weapons? Also they would have to have 40 hours handgun training by local police. I think their would be fewer massacres and those that did happen would have fewer victims. Mass murders do not go shoot up police offices.

How do you define responsible? The truth is, any responsible person could just *snap* under the right circumstances. A questionnaire application or even a person-to-person interview isn't going to necessarily be able to identify things about a person that might make them go "postal" later on.

I also think that young people (say, up to the age of 25 or so) should not be able to obtain their own weapons. It is such an emotionally unstable time of life for many late teenagers and early twenty-year olds. Judgement isn't always the most mature or perceptive.

Well we are entitled to the right to bear arms. Some states its already legal. You do have to have the training from the police as well as a test to take. However even responsible people can go apeshit one day. So really this is a loaded question in a way

There are concealed gun licenses granted in many states. 40 hours handgun training? No way. There are plenty of experience shooters who are way beyond the need of a class for amateurs. Why make them learn their ABC's all over again?
Some people need it but not all. One size fits all kind of law stinks.

It's a good idea, especially if a law enforcement officer can have 40 hours of contact with a potential gun owner they might be able to detect problem people.

I see it this the thugs and gangbangers have more than forty hours of training so why not teach people that are responsible how to use a gun and let then carry it.

Yes, so long as the people are well trained as to what their responsibilities are when armed. I would also like to see some no cost annual live fire range requirements.

I completely agree with you, but on the flip side, a decent arguementor, could say that reguardless of what rules are being set, criminals will steal weapons either way....you can have sneaky, respondisble criminals...respondsible, doesnt mean a good person.

its like an underaged kid smoking cigarettes...he cant buy them, but somehow he gets his hands on them either way.
