The shooting has been labeled by the President as the worst mass shooting in American history, more lives were lost than at Colombine. Is there just no safe place anymore.I feel like more could have been done to prevent this horrible tragedy.Begining with getting the shooter help when his teachers became aware of his violent and twisted thoughts. He wrote papers in this manner."He was a troubled young man".and was there not any security in the building? I am not blameing anyone but who else thinks it could have been prevented or at least caught after the first shooting earlyer at the dorms!

Many deaths would have been prevented if the school had been locked down after the dorm murders were discovered .
The shooter was still at large ; and the school had recently received several bomb threats . Insanity and negligence both share the blame in this tragedy - but the killer obviously was more prepared than the school was . It only adds to the bizarre..that many are placing the fault for this senseless tragedy on the guns . A little common sense would have gone a long way - but it's somehow easier to give weapons a magical power ..as if guns made him do it . When the ulterior motive is to disarm the law abiding public..it's the crack-pots who will out-number those following the law .

"There is no safe place anymore"

There are about 250 million people who didn't get killed yeasterday. You are over reacting.

"get the shooter help when his teachers became aware of his violent thoughts"

I have had violent thoughts numerous times in the past. I own a gun. I have never considered shooting anyone. His screenplays were no worse than some of the movies being made right now. Should we get Wes Craven help?

"security in the building"

Contrary to your naive perspective, there is not a policeman in every building across the nation. Even if there was a security guard he probably wouldn't be armed so all (s)he could have done was to call for the police.

"prevented or caught after first shooting"

Who would have caught him? He had a gun and had killed people. I certainly wouldn't have tried to take him down. He shot his girlfriend. Usually when that happens the event is over because the disgruntled boyfriend has only one target. This was a VERY unusual event when he went to a different location to continue his psychotic rampage.

It was the worst mass shooting at a collage or school. I'm pretty sure its not the worst mass shooting in American history. Not much could have been done to prevent this though. I saw on the news earlier today that one of the teachers called around everywhere they could but you can't "force" anyone to get theropy and Cho just didn't want it. and the second shooting couldn't of been prevented because who knew that some guy who was believed to only go after his girlfriend was going to turn the gun on everybody else including him self.

I think it could have been prevented in some way. After the first shooting in the dorms they should have cancelled classes but they didn't. The whole thing could have been avoided long ago when he wrote those plays..I'm not blaming anyone either because theres not much anyone can do about it now, so I don't think about the 'What If's. My heart does go out to the family's of the victims, NOBODY should lose there life especially at a young age.

There is no truly safe place from psychos who just "go off" and decide that it is their time to take out their misery on humanity. How can we truly protect ourselves or our kids from this? You can't put metal detectors at the entrances of every grocery store, drug store, dollar tree..........by that same token, you can't put them at the entrances to every college building on American soil! This is not Iraq, and we should not have to live like it is.

And as for the troubling papers that this guy wrote in school......unless he specifically threatened someone in real life, what were they supposed to do?? They did what they could, which was to attempt to send him to counseling. They couldn't do anything about generic writings which , even though they were very macabre, did not directly threaten anyone. Their hands were tied.

Virginia Tech is one of the most superb universities in this fine nation. The police, administration, faculty, etc. did everything humanly possible, given the circumstances in this incident. That crazy Cho would have killed anybody he could have, no matter what kind of lockdowns may have happened. He is the ONLY ONE TO BLAME!!!! Not anyone ELSE at VT.

I can't begin to express the love and prayers that I am sending out to my college community. Virginia Tech is a remarkable place with remarkable students and faculty, and they will recover after this tragedy and be stronger than ever. GO HOKIES!!!!!!

There is no crystal ball when it comes to irrational behavior,no one can predict that the cute, gentle, polite postman will go "postal"
However, crazy as it may seem to you, someone in the class with a weapon could have prevented most, if not all the deaths. It takes a gun to stop a gun, undercover cops amongst the students are not a novelty. It is just not politically correct for most
Liberals to pass laws that allow you to defend yourself. The only crime you cannot be charged legally for is self defense, and the Liberals want to make sure that you have a potato in your holster to defend yourself from well armed criminals! God bless them for their good intentions, unfortunately
the road to HELL is paved with good intentions.

That was a terrible and sad accident and i think the gunman should have gotten help. I also thought it was ridiculous how the school wasnt put into lockdown after the first shooting. I mean it took them 2hours to go into lockdown and i think alot of the students would have been more safe if they immediately went into lockdown after the first shooting.

i think of this capturing is a terrible tragedy. My finished kinfolk is in ask your self. maximum persons attened/worked at Virginia Tech at one time or yet another, if fact be told my grandfather's place of work is interior the same construction that the capturing occurred (Norris hall). thankfully he wasn't there. i think of this is gloomy that VT will bypass down in history for being the region of the deadliest campus capturing in history. My heart is going out to the victims and their families.

Yes It is the worst school shooting in US history. Its terriable and I think it could have been prevented too. Its awful that children and young adults cannot even try to get an education due to fear of getting killed. Schools should be one of the safest places.
