I think the movie It's a wonderful life is a secular film, however it has unfortunately been marketed to be a Christmas movie. However. I do not think that it's a wonderful life is a christian movie.

It certainly has implied overtones of Christianity. Most of the movie does center around the Christmas holiday season and that is why it is marketed to be a movie for that time of the year.

Why is it unfortunate to you that it is marketed as a Christmas movie?

Perhaps the movie should be viewed as one of hope, regardless of your religious beliefs. It shows the good in people during difficult times of this nation (war, depression, etc). The movie helps people feel good during a time of year when things may seem bleak to them because of the loss of loved ones, money problems, war and mean people. To many, Christmas is not a happy time of the year because of so many expectations. This movie helps break that perception and provides hope that there is a higher power listening to prayers.

Now one final question for you. What do you see wrong with something that may give someone hope?

I never looked at it as a Christian movie just as a christmas movie

It is a "Christian" movie in that, like a lot of movies, it assumes the Christian view of reality for the plot to work - i.e. there are angels, a heaven, et cetera, which say, an Atheist or a Buddhist wouldn't see as a normal, everyday part of the real world.

I dont necessarily think its a Christian movie. Its a Christmas movie because its centered around that holiday. However it doesnt exactly teach Christian principles.

No it's not, it's just a movie to teach us all to be thankful of the things we have in life. To love the people in our lives. To live each day to it's fullest. To appreciate what we have. It's just a movie to make you think about your own life and to appreciate it.

Well it upholds strong Christian morals and values. It's centered around Christmas time (believe it or not, Christmas is actually a Christian holiday!), so I would say it is. That doesn't mean you have to be a Christian to enjoy it.
