Dont you think supermans constume is absurd? What is with the cape (and dont say it was from his home planet, that was just made up to rationalize something idiotic). What does he need a cape for? Who in their right mind would dress up in such a ridiculous costume? Cape, tights and boots with a big s? More like supernerd.

hell no i wouldn't wear a costume like superman, first of all, th colors are to america, and i'm not too big a fan of america even if i'm american, second the cape would get in the way, and third the whole damn thing is too damn tacky and i'm not one of those freaky fasion people, i agree with you more like supernerd, i wouldn't wear his costume, but superman is original and hes classic, so i can diss his clothes but not the comics or anything like that, so to answer your question, NO I would NOT wear an outfit like superman

If I could fly I would soooo have a cape! Capes kick butt!

Superman can wear what ever the heck he wants. He's super human and almost nothing can hurt him. And even though you say it is just an excuse, if you really think about it, his every day clothes and "Clark Kent" persona ARE his real costume.

He's not from here, his real name is Kal-El, and if you read any of his origin stories, there have been multiple versions written, his real parent wear similar clothing to Superman's "Costume." And the "S" is actually his famliy's crest. So yes it is because of his true heritage that he wears the cape and colors.

Although I will admit that Supes looks really cool in the comics, but it just dosen't look as good in film.

Actually, my biggest problem with Superman is the fact that he doen't wear a mask, and NOBODY can figure out he's Clark Kent. Do people look THAT different when they wear glasses?

Check it out.....

If you had these freakish abilities: like flight, super strength and a half dozen alternate visions... wouldn't you want something eye catching as a costume?! The Cape adds dramatic flare and lets face it when you are as powerful as Superman is you can wear anything you want....

Imagine you were to see some guy flying through the air in a gaudy bright costume... you'd remember what he was wearing even if you didn't remember his face. You would go: "Hey did anyone else see that jackass wearing the red, blue and yellow tights...?" and trust me you'd be glad when that "jackass" kept that bridge you were on from collapsing.

You've got to realize that Superman's costume is visually similar to carnival and circus performers from decades ago. these folk wore garrish leotards and tights to attract the eye, get people to look at them and hopefully remember them.

As for the red, blue and yellow and Superman's "S" crest? It is identifiable the world over. Show it to almost anyone and i'd say 4/5 people will know who it is instantly.

Absurd? perhaps. Effective? indeed.

Oh and to answer the original question... yes... if i had superpowers similar to Superman's I would have a bright outlandish costume.

I don't like tight clothing but with my physique, the bad guys would be laughing too hard to escape. The cape? Did anyone ever say Superman was in his right mind. Hey, he was exposed to kryptonite after all. And I think Lana told him it was cool to summer at the cape. But he was busy fighting crime and couldn't get away, so he took the cape with him. Later Lois got hooked on the whole mystique so he kept the cape even though it gave him a wedgie when he wore it under his reporter's outfit (super wedgie). As far as the boots, sometimes his crime fighting got him into deep sh*t. Wouldn't you wear boots? And lastly, and probably leastly (is that a word?), it takes a lot of pizazz to stand out in a cartoon frame. Good luck in your search for the truth, justice, and the American way!

i agree his outfit is demented not only that but theres the fact that all he does is take off his glasses and wow hes superman no i wouldnt dress like that i wouldnt wear a costume at all i'd just beat the #ell outa the bad guys (or people i dont like) depending on my power at the very least id just wear a cool mask but no capes there are alot of anime characters that are pretty much heros and ya dont see them in a cape ok cape without mask may be cool actualy when you think about it it just depends because theres that inuyasha monk guy his cape looks cool and the masks of the chess peices in mar look cool too but a big red cape with blue tights and my underwear on the outside no way in reality people would laugh "what the hell is he wearing hahaha"even if he had th power to kill'em all my point is costume could be cool but not supermans in my opinion you should have a reason if your gonna wear a costume like batman he actualy has gadgets with his costume supermans is just for show and not a very good one

Superman and Batman and most of the other super heroes dated back to the 50's, and apparently it was pretty cool to have a cape back then.

I think it helped the look of Superman to have the cape flowing behind him as he flew. Even Batman used his cape to help him float down on the bad guys.

But to answer your question, if I had superpowers I wouldn't let on, so I wouldn't wear anything that would make me stand out.

Just think about it for a minute...
When he's flying the waving cape looks really cool. The tights because he always had them on, you know under his work suit, so it had to be thin. As for the big S, he needed a symbol. He's just super, no specific power (Like spider man has spider powers) so they just put his initial. You ask why boots? What else would look good? Flip Flops? I think not.

Of course there's flukes in my answer, but hey he's superman. He'd be boring if he wore Jeans to save the day.

If I was a super heroine, I'd probably wear something like trinity in the Matrix, just to be badass.

I always wear my super outfit. How can you expect to be such a bad mofo without one.

The cape is an aerodynamic instrument to reduce the hair-do ruining factor of flying.

Noooooo. First don't got the body to wear it yet. Second of all my superpower would be absolute control over time so for me would be easy to go back to the 30's and change the scheme of superheroes forever. Personally I would like to wear a black leather cloak and a nice suite underneath it all (style above all)

From the movie 'The Incredibles' did you see the reasoning of M. No capes they can get caught. Enemies could grab it.

And I certainly wouldn't wear my underpants outside my pants.
