The Virginia Tech massacre was a horrible, horrible tragedy but in time, it will fade from public view. Only those who have suffered a personal loss will be faced with the struggle to overcome their grief and restructure their life.

Security guards can only provide a "sense" of security. They cannot provide virtual security. The objective of the security guard is to take control of the situation, keep people calm, stop panic.

After the reports have been filed, the investigations have been completed and the recommendations made, people will calm down and feel secure, then complacent.

Because of my personal experience, I favor allowing individuals to carry concealed weapons if they have had training and have not had a felony conviction. Most of the people in the self-help group Parents of Murdered Children have strong feelings about this issue as well as Citizens against Homicide. (Members of both national groups have suffered the loss of a loved one to homicide) Compassionate Friends is also a self-help group however it is for parents who have lost a child to any cause homicide, accidental death or disease.

People in these organizations spend a lot of time writing letters to parole boards, and getting legislation passed like Michigan's "truth in sentencing" and sentencing guidelines" (despite the fiscal impact).

It would be very nice if all the predators, murderers, rapists, child molestors and other gun-toting sickos could be locked up...... or maybe even hanged, drawn and quartered for some.

The justice system and law enforcement can only do so much. The ATF can only seize so many weapons from the predators.

The reason I favor responsible citizens being educated in safe gun use is for protection. They will not be the ones using the guns to commit a crime or kill an innocent.

So you are trying to defend banning guns by saying that only the criminals should be allowed to have guns?

It may be best then if the mobsters kick in your door and put your family in harms way because, I intend to use my right to own a gun to stop criminals from invading my families safety.

Poor analysis.

Let's face it...we are not going to get rid of guns in the U.S. The problem with ever-increasing gun laws, which was demonstrated perfectly (and horribly) in VA, is that it binds the hands of law-abiding citizens so that they are unable to defend themselves.
Here is a link to some news that you probably won't see...
it's an article showing how the University trumped state law and continued to ban state law by not allowing firearms on campus.
My favorite quote is from Larry Hinker when he said,"In an academic environment, we believe you should be free from fear".
The problem is that they created an environment that is free from your ability to defend yourself.

Japan never had a gun crime problem in the first place. Kinda disingenuous to use a country that never had a gun problem as an example.

Also Virginia has some lax laws, but also some of the lowest gun related crimes.

Yes it appears to be proof. It seems that you can try to ban guns but as with other things, people can always get banned items, there's a lot of money in doing it it seems.

Wrong. You don't need a handgun to kill someone you don't like. It's been proven not only here in the US but also in Japan.

Yeah, I agree....

Japan has had very little gun problems because of the law. On the other hand virginia is one of the most liberal gun control states so I doubt there will be any gun laws. If they do create one they should call it the Columbine Law.

You are correct! Japan has a hand gun law and I guess it works, but they don't use guns. They us SERIN GAS, much deadlier, and not as noisy!

If you outlaw guns, only outlaws will have guns.

Cliche, but the proof is in the pudding as recent events have shown.

Laws are only for the law abiding. A criminal will always be able to get a gun.
