I want to take my gf out to a nice resturant while we are in cali next weekend, she has never seen the ocean, and I think a restaurant with a nice view would be a really romantic place to take her, but the thing is, I have never been to LA, so I don't know anywhere nice.

I want a nice restaurant, money is not a problem, but the best value for your dollar is perfered, and please, no chain brand restautants like olive garden or something.

Any Reccomendations?

i will do my best to keep it between newport and long beach with an ocean view, like you asked...

1. mastro's ocean club. PCH just south of corona del mar
2. chart house. PCH in NB (harbor view, not an ocean view)
3. billy's. PCH in NB (right next to chart house)
4. spark woodfire grill. PCH/main st in HB (pier/ocean view)
5. dukes. PCH in HB/main st (right on the beach)

not too familiar with long beach. here are some other notes:

1. las brisas in laguna has a nice view but the food is just okay. it's not even between NB or LB anyway...

2. if laguna is okay, then try hush restaurant on PCH. not an ocean view, but still close to the ocean nonetheless. you can walk there.

3. the bungalow on PCH in newport is great. not an ocean view, but fairly close to it.

Christoper (above me), has no idea what he's talking about... Long beach does have some great place, I will agree with that, but there are many places in long beach that are not the safest! Also long beach has many places that are on the cheaper side for living, that's if you're okay with living in a neighborhood, that's not the safest. And most places in Longbeach don't have parking, meaning you have to park on the street, and pray your car doesn't get broken into. Newport beach, is clean and very pricey. The crime rate is low, there is lots to do, however the rent is very very high. The two city, are apples to oranges.

Belmont Brewery in the Belmont Shore area of Long Beach. It is right by the Pier, has a heated outdoor patio, nice menu and full bar, with their own beers. If you want an elegant restaurant that does a steak or beef wellington, check out The Madison at First and Pine in Long Beach. It is in an old bank built in the 1920s with mahogany paneling, a beautiful bar and you can stroll down to the water front after dinner just two blocks south. There are a lot of restaurants on the waterfront there but they are chains.

blech all of these people have pretty weird taste. do NOT go to joes crab shack if you want romance. jeez, that place has the worst service.

gladstones is a good suggestion.

if you like mediterranean food there is a really cute place in long beach called Gypsy's. it is sort of a hidden gem. there is no ocean view, but its right on the beach, walking distance to the sand so you can take a nice stroll after eating a good meal!

from tripadvisor:

Gypsy's Mediterranean Grill

If you're craving Mediterranean cuisine, hotfoot it on over to Gypsy's. This tiny restaurant is often passed over by people en route to the Belmont Brewing Company, but people who stop in and discover what Gypsy's has to offer leave satisfied at having discovered a real gem. I've never had a bad meal there. The food is terrific, from the smooth hummus to the well-seasoned grilled meats to the melt-in-your-mouth baklava. On warm evenings, ask for a table on the patio for one of the best alfresco dining experiences in Long Beach.

and I agree!

It's a little south of Newport. In Laguna Beach (very tourist area) there is a resturant on a cliff over looking the ocean and it has this beautiful gazebo to sit in after dinner. Las Breezes...there is also a club next to it. It's a great little area!

Newport - Villinova's, nice and pricey , they have a cigar bar - Woody's small, local, and you watch the boats

Huntington Beach - Savera's (just opened last week) hard to
get in, expensive, but worth it, killer steaks - get he 16oz rib eye - Tuna Town, best sushi around period, get the Spicy tuna Ju JU Aki, comes to you on fire also the Young's roll has fillet mignon on top, I'll be there 4/21

Redondo Beach - Chart House is #1 - casual, very romantic get a window seat and watch the sun go down, she'll go ga ga! The Dungeness Crab is excellent! - Cheesecake Factory, sit on the patio and see the boats, no reservations get there early.

Parkers Light House. It is located in Long Beach and you can sit out side next to the harbor across from the queen mary ship. Great Food too..If not long is the place to go though, every thing is next to the harbor and its all lighten up at night.

For santa Monica, shutters is by far the best one: http://shuttersonthebeach.com/home.html

By newport there are a ton! You can go to the typical tourist places like billys, joes crab shack, and rusty pelican. But a little ways down in Laguna is Splashes.

It's gorgeous, and literally the waves are hitting the glass of the restaurant. After dinner you can go and walk down on their private beach.
