I live in Kansas City, and I've noticed an extremely bright star about 45 degrees from the horizon I can see in the northwest portion of the sky. Can anyone tell me the name of it?

Here's a cool site called "Night Sky". It tells us about seeing Venus in the evening (I've been seeing it in Illinois, too) and other interesting info.
