I have Microsoft Office Outlook 2003, which works fine for me. I normally type in English, but I can type in other languages and the emails I receive from my friends and family from China and Japan are fine. Most likely it's your setting. I don't know about your computer, but on mine there is a Regional and Language option in the Control Panel, click on it and go onto the Languages tab and look under Supplemental Language support to see whether you have the option to install languages of East Asia. Once this is installed, your computer would be able to read the text and display it in its original form

This web site shows that it can be done.

I copied the language text into a Microsoft outlook email and it displayed fine.
I then sent the email to myself and again the characters were still readable.
