Generally the issue was not really about Pearl Harbor but how other countries felt about the USA joining the war. Up until this time the USA had tried to stay out of the war and Germany wanted it that way. Germany was not happy at all because Pearl Harbor meant that not only was the USA going to entire the war, but it was going to be just one more enemy, an enemy that was closely allied to the one country in Western Europe Germany was not making any inroads in, and that was Britain.

As for Britain, they sighed a huge sigh and thought "It's about time America got involved". Actually they were not happy with American non-involvement. So, this brought them joy and relief, and the same goes for France.

Other countries? All countries in all parts of the world were involved in WW II. Japan already had invaded China, Indochina, Indonesia, parts of India and the rest of the South Pacific nations. Germany controled Europe. The Soviet Union controled the rest of East Europe and parts of Asia..

Not much interest in Pearl Harbor. as all were just trying to survive. The US had maintained a sort of neutrality before this.

Australia saw Pearl Harbour as the first step of Japanese Imperialism to attack Western influence in Asia-Pacific, which would lead Japan to dominate and establish its Empire.

When Pearl Harbour happened, Australia feared that Japan would move on to invade South East Asia, and directly threaten the British base at Singapore, and then move on to possibly invade the British Empire dominions of Australia and New Zealand.

But Pearl Harbour was significant for Australia as a mind set of defeating Japan - an Asian power. Australia saw the United states as a great democracy and as a 'white power' who Australia should look to for help and support against Japanese imperialism.

Pearl Harbour also helped Australia to face something it didnt want to - our position in the Pacific we were vulnerable, and if Japan could attack Pearl Harbour, then the Japanese could invade the British base at Singapore - rendering the British military power impotent in SE Asia.

Despite promises that Britain would be able to defend the base at Singapore - on which Australia and NZ depended to block any advance, Pearl Harbour brought home the stark reality that the British could not defend its own possessions throughout the world.

When the U.S entered the war, Australia recognised that we needed to have some form of military alliance with the U.S to defeat any hostile Power in Asia-Pacific region.

Pearl Harbour was tragic - but it brought home alot of realities that Australia did not want to see at the time.

"The United Kingdom's Prime Minister Winston Churchill, on hearing the attack on Pearl Harbor had finally drawn the United States into the war, wrote, "Being saturated and satiated with emotion and sensation, I went to bed and slept the sleep of the saved and thankful."(Churchill, Winston. "The Second World War", Vol. 3, 539.)"

As Mexican, I know Mexico's reaction: "Damn, who is the crazy moron who just angered the gringos???"

Next thing you know, Hitler sinks a couple of our oil tankers and we join the Allied cause too.
