What do you suppose a soldier should do if he is an otherwise exemplary soldier (fit, respected, decorated, highly motivated, etc) and gay? Does he have a moral obligation to be himself and thus get expelled from the service? Or should he deny his feelings in the interest of "good soldiering"? Should he continue to support a service that, if they knew he were gay, could prosecute him (if he were a "practicing" gay)? Or should he part ways with a hippocritical orginization and withdraw his support of his service?

A soldier who does not disclose the fact that he is gay is not denying his feelings, but is also not completely being themselves by hiding this from others in his military unit. A military unit should not force one of its members to feel as if they have to hide a part of themselves.

A soldier's choice to remain or leave the military is his own personal decision, and soldiers should not be expected to make political statements because being a member of the military is not political.

It should also be noted that the first American soldier wounded in Iraq who had his leg amputated as a result recently came out as a gay man.

I'm in the military and feel that your sexual preference is something you should keep to yourself. Let's look at some examples of sexual behavior that might put a different perspective on it. Most guys in the military love porn, however porn is not condoned so you have to participate privately. Also, let's say that you are a womanizer or an adulturer, perhaps you're married and want to bang every skirt that comes your way. If that's what gets you off, fine, but you need to keep these activities discreet and do it on your own time. Get my drift?

all people in the service should adhere to a code of behavior... it's usually the straights causing problems (Lindy England's escapades, Tailhook, etc).
