I think that people should stop focusing on the fact that the killer was Korean. They should look at the deeper side of the issue.

This is mostly a rant, not technically a question, but I can not understand the root of racisim. I mean, how can people just discrimate against a group of people without getting to know them first??
That was a stupid question, because I KNOW that people do that, and they just do.

Even now, just 20 minutes ago, the user "call me" on Yahoo Answers told me to get mental help just because I was Korean, based on the VT killings.
He/She had told me that "Koreans should all get mental help becuase they are scary, because they are so quiet."

How do you know if I'm quiet or not? Who are you to tell me what I am and what my state of health is?

I just think its very irrational that people are putting race into this and they should stop putting even more hate and anger in the world.

Sorry that you had to listen to my rant/ =]

This is something you are going to have to cope with. Life is not fair and you should not be getting grief over this. Most killers are white men, but no one demeans other white men about killings. Do not respond, it will only give them satisfaction.

I don't know that everyone is focusing on the fact that the killer is korean, i think that it is because they are telling people what he looked like, and anyone who judges the korean race becuase of this one man is an idiot. I had a korean kid in my class and he was the funniest and nicest people in our class. so people who tell koreans that they are quiet and so now they need mental help is really just stupid. the killers race had nothing to do with what he did he was just a very disturbed human. I hope that people don't look differently at koreans after this. But I do disagree with one of the answerers to this question is wrong. While I do agree that being called names and being mistreated is painful, I don't see it as an excuse to kill 32 inoccent people. and i think it can be just a racist to blame caucasions for his anger.

Please clam down and get control of yourself. These are traumatic times. Anger, hate and bias are not limited to Americans. And kindness, respect and civility are not uniquely Korean.

I made 5 tours of your country in the 28 years I was in the Navy. I experience much kindness, respect and civility there but I also experience much bitterness, hatred and violence against me because I was an American. People are people every where. Human nature is universal. I have the utmost respect for the Korean culture even through some Koreans treated me shabbily. Lighten up a bit. This to will pass.

does it really matter what he was there are allot of dead people , and no one will really know why. people did this if you look deep inside we can all blame ourselves that's the scary est part of it. could we have been a little nicer, more polite, understanding patient helpful ? the fear is the fear at any given time we us could say or do something to set that other person off, Korean white black Chinese Indian Hispanic christian Jew , look deep within that mirror of your own soul. there are the answers. we know them , each and every one of us are to blame. Christ said those without sin cast the first stone. I got no rocks in my pockets. God have mercy on that mans soul. and the souls that were lost at his hands. Forgive. and pray for better understanding, that all people can come together to stop this unnecessary bloodshed that serves no purpose or motive.

honestly other than the mentioning of him being Korean, I haven't heard or thought any different of Koreans, or any Asians. I think a lot of people are shocked at his ethnicity, because in General, we automatically assume Asians have always got their act together, lol.
There will always be stupidity in the world. Stupid knows no race. Once somebody of the next race does something stupid they will move away from you. Heck, nobody has even mentioned the Muslims in 2 days, lol.

Agreed, and stereotyping is a legitimate and controversial issue that angers many, especially the group of minorities in this country (I'm Ms. Obvious!). Take the Columbine incident for instance. Since those two killers were Caucasian, why don't all white people get mental help then? ... Exactly. You can't assume that because one is mental, their entire race suddenly turns into killer oddballs.

I totally get what you are saying, it is quite upsetting to get online and be face with all this racist junk .......... and then these losers call it "freedom of speech" .....it not freedom of speech but just plain hatred for a certain race or religion.

The VT killer was a sad, very disturbed individual......madness at this level knows no religion or race.

i honsetly think that people are messed up to blame the innocent people of south korea for this one incident that has happened! this is stereotyping, and im not just saying this because im south korean myself. this tragic event is a big deal, but the race doesnt matter right now. and that "call me" dude is screwed in the head. some people are just so ignorant and narrow minded. i knew something like this would happen. and i agree with you 1O0%!!

I haven't heard anyone obsess about his race, but I'm sure they have. I'm not American, so I've just heard certain things on the news. They seem to be talking about his mental health issues more.
