I would look at it. If it's purple, it's Cr3+. If it's orange, it's Fe3+. If its blue-to-green, it's Cu2+.

Put it in aqueous Solution ( dissolved in Water) and what the color is. Depending on what color it is.. u can determine the Cation.

Cr3+ = Violet
Fe3+ = Gold or Yellow
Cu2+ = Blue

Add a few drops to starch. Turns black if Fe. Place a few drops on a piece of paper towl. Allow to dry or dry with hair dryer. Carefully burn the paper. Green flame is Cu. Cr by elinination af 1 and 2.
