I thought of it a couple minutes ago while eating brown-sugar oatmeal. It isn't very special or anything, but here it is:
When I'm broken, at least I still work.
But when you stop me, we die.

I believe that would be the heart. Yor heart can be broken, but it still can work. But when it stops, both the heart and the person owning the heart will perish.

A heart. A heart can be broken, but still functioning (physically, at least), but if it stops, all else stops with it.
