Because the human element in the form of umpires adds to the game, if we used technology to make decisions then we don't have use for the umpires on the field and who then is to control the players.
Technology is great but it is not perfect either, some catches aren't clearly caught and then where Hawkeye is concerned I think that is flawed, because hawkeye uses technology to show where the ball will go after it has pitched but we all know that the cricket ball does not always go like that...example, reverse swing, does Hawkeye factor that in? I don't think so.
So really the technology isn't perfect yet to be used but even then we need to have umpires out there to monitor and control the situation....the playing area requires human attention.
Bad decisions have been there since the beginning of the game until now and you will admit that we have had brilliant cricket in between.

There are a lot of sports where technology would greatly improve the accuracy of the game. Even instant replay is fallible.
The reason why technology is not used is because of the owners. They don't really care who wins and who loses. They make money buy charging people to become fans of the sport and in some sports the losers get some of that play off money. Also bad calls are generally played on both teams. So a team that loses a game because of a bad call could win a game on a bad call. They also can create fans for boarderline teams. Teams that don't make the playoffs on a bad call could have won a couple of past games and never ended up in that situation. A close game is a danger area for bad calls. If there are bad calls in a blow out game, very few people care.

LBW decisions have been most controversial in the history of cricket till now. If everything has to be referred to 3rd umpire, then there is no need for field umpires. I strongly feel that the present system of referring only the doubtful cases to 3rd umpire is quite okey.

i like your Q.....
if you go and look at tennis, they do use modern technology.........like if the re free is not sure where the ball has fallen, they have a screen which shows where exactly the ball is..........so cricket should develop.....
in this way the umpires are bribed and the unwanted team wins because"UMPIRES DECISION IS THE LAST DECISION"

Why do people want to remove all human element from sports?
If everything is decided by technology, no-one can blame the ump/ref anymore.
