Hi, am I am 19 years old and since I was 13 my period has been irregular. It cames one month then it would skip like three months then come, then skip a whole year then come, then a month, u get the picture!

Well i would like to know if this means that I will never be able to have children, because the doctor told when i was about 16 that it would regularize it self...but it never has!

I need some advice........from a another woman who has either been through this or knows something about it.

Thank you alot.....I appreciate all of your answers.

Well, your doctor knows best, but if she isn't worried, then I will share this. I was terribly irregular, like you describe, until my mid-twenties. I had no trouble getting pregnant either time (age 22 and 26). My periods became very regular when I was around 25. This is just one woman's story but it could be yours, based on what you have said.

Also, are you at a low weight? That can cause temporary cessation of menstruation. In fact, this happens in agrarian cultures where there is abundance at one point then less food for a large period of the year. It doesn't adversely affect fertility when food is plentiful. In fact, I read an article that said it was healthier, because when menstruation ceases (temporarily) due to low weight, the breasts do not go through their monthly cycle either, and this leads to a lower incidence of breast cancer in these cultures.

I am wondering if you are athletic and very active? Could it be some meds you are on that's causing it to do that? It is normal for periods to do that. I'm much older than you and mine is doing that one month yes, six months later....it is getting on my nerves! You will be able to have children so don't worry about that. As long as the doctor didn't say you had something seriously wrong, you should be alright. Maybe go to a female gynecologist and get some real answers. Until then, don't worry. I believe you will be fine.

No, it does not mean u can never get pregnant. However, u need to keep on this issue with your doctor. If you arent happy with the way your doctor treats you or what he/she tells you, then find a new one. Many times, diet, exercise, drug use, ect. can effect your period. I have had this happen before. I am now 37 years old and have had four children. Please keep on it medically. That is not a normal cycle and you need to take care of it.

Your fine and yes you will be able to have children. If you want it to be more regular. You can take the pill.. The problems is you can't determine when ur ovulating so you might get pregnant quick and since your period is not something you can time then. you might be farther along before it hits you.

dont worry. this is not a major problem. ask your doctor about birth control pills that would make you regular. you can also try prenatal vitamins. be watchful of the vitamins though, they will make you gain a little weight but they are great for growth of healthy hair and nails. after taking the birth control for a while your period will catch on and you wont have to continue them for that purpose.

well my period was the same way and i started when i was 11. the doctor told me that it has to be a few years to become regular, so i think 6 years is enough and you should ask a doctor. immediately. Also, if you are bulemic/anorexic that could throw your period off whack and stunt growth.

It depends on your activities. Do you exercise alot, or play sports? Have you ever been on birth control? sometimes that mess up your cycle. If you are sexually active it affects it to. I was that way before, but it eventually gets on a regular cycle when you get older sometimes not always. You'll still be able to have children. I did.

My daughter had the same problem. She has 2 beautiful children. She has endometriosis. That may be what you have. The problem her Dr. said was that she was too fertile. You should see a gynecologist and ask about it.Don't worry about not being able to have kid's you'll be fine.
