Ok im in a situation where im stuck. The highest points on my parabola are (8,30) and (9,30) so do i say there is no vertex or do i say that these are both the highest points. There is not just one point where everything meets up there are two points

I think I know what you're doing wrong. You're only plugging in integer values for x, so you're missing the fact that they're something even higher at x = 8.5 (like others have already answered you). If that is in fact what you're doing, you can get the x-coordinate of the vertex by calculating -b/2a (when the equation is given in the form y = ax² + bx + c )

All parabolas have a vertex. The highest point is actually midway between x = 8 and x = 9. Its coordinates are of the form:

(8.5, y)

Without more information I can not say what y would be.

I'd have to say that there is another, higher point at x = 8.5. Unless of course you don't actually have a parabola and instead some cubic or higher function, in which case you can have local maximums at both points. Just take your equation and plug in 8.5 for x and see what y value you get.

Try (8.5,Y Value) 8.5 is between 8 and 9. All parabolas have vretexes. If there was no vertex then it would not be a parabola.

What is the equation?
and all parabolas have a vertex, so i think your data might be a little messed up

A parabola cannot have two relative maxima. There is an error in your data, or your curve is not a parbola. Can you give us more information so we can help sort this out for you?
