It was a backlash by Rock and roll dj's that led to it's downfall. It was a smidge of the racist side to. rock was pretty much killed by hip hop. But for a few years there in the early 80's Rock Ruled and it's never ruled since.

us rockers hit the disco ppl in the nuts with our guitars until they said ok ill listen then they liked it now shut up not really im just bored and feel like typing

I don't think it died or any form of music dies. I think no matter what there are creative cats out there doing what they love and someone loves disco. I do.
