most fish stores will sell an attachment called a "Prefilter" its a sponge, with tube connectors to hook onto a regular whisper or other overtank filter. It works great for my 10gal and 55 gal baby tanks! Good luck

The sponge will work ok as long as it's not too thick. If it's difficult for you to blow through, it would most likely damage the filter. Personally, I would suggest you use a sponge filter on a fry tank. Even though you need an air pump for them, a very small air pump and the sponge are quite cheap and will give the gentle but very effective filtration a fry tank needs.

yes put a sponge on the filter intake tube. if your filter has a power dial on the top, to operate the flow of the water, then put it on low.

why don't u go and get the containment tank for the fry, its like a mini tank made of mesh that goes in ur actual tank. that sounds safer then ur fry getting sucked onto the sponge.
