First thing I do is, NEVER take my eye off the ball, accept if Im gaurding the pg, I may glance behind me for a split sec. (when hes bringing the ball down court) to see if anybody's behind me to set up a pick....

If my oppent is a driver/slaher type player and can beat me off the drible, I will give him enough space, where he cant beat me to the hole, I rather give up a long 3, than a easy layup anyday.

If he is a pure shooter and can drain 3's all day, then I will be all on him, like white on rice.

Try to force them to their weak side, have an eye on your defender, and watch the offense hips it showed which way they are going. Have your arms spread and if you have a chance to steal go for it. Dont go for steal everytime because you will overcommit and miss. Dont give too much room for an shot and dont be all on them because they can draw fouls. If there was a hand check rule(thats when i played my hardest defense) and be aggresive and dont let anybody outpower

You should keep one hand where he ball is so you could steal it. Then you put your right foot inside of their, and your left on the outside. Next you bend to about 1 foot off the ground, but keep your balance. And last cut off the passing lanes. That's my secret.

Stay low to the ground, behind down, head up, if your guarding the person with the ball, stay close enough so that you can cut off passing lanes, but not too close, or he could easily move past you.

Here's a big defensive tactic you can use on a dominant post up player..

While he is backing you up, press your thumb(s) on his back near the kidney area. It will definitely annoy the offensive player and get him off of his game

The solar plexus. When you are guarding them, pay no attention to the ball carriers eyes, head, hands, or feet. Keep their torso in front of you at all times and they will never get around you.

If your opponent can shoot, don't give him room

If he can drive, but can't shoot, give him a little room

if he can drive & shoot, good luck, just kidding, stay on your toes, make him take the jumpshot
