You knew the answer before you asked, huh?
*fair warning: you're shaking a hornet's nest with this question...lots of angry women will throw their two cents at you over this issue.
Of course you can do whatever you like with your body, and with your baby's body for that matter...but have you pictured a grown man holding your baby down and blowing smoke into his/her face?
...You would allow this to go on for how long..?
Every nutrient you put into your body is shared with your child...and every poison as well.
Your body is now your child's body, and will remain so until she/he can survive outside the womb...She needs you to survive, and her health now and in the future is in your hands.
Please try a bit harder to trade the cigarettes for chewing gum, licorice whips, red vines, twizzlers, raisins, cashews,...whatever it takes to curb the cravings (but NOT nicotine patches or gum) and begin cleansing your baby's diet.

Unless everyone here is living under a rock obviously you can! You SHOULDN'T smoke and you SHOULDN'T be asking people here like you're asking for permission. You're not going to find someone to say it's ok. It isn't ok. There is clear evidence to show that it's harmful to the fetus. However, all of us have seen that person at work big huge and pregnant about to pop in the smoking area with everyone else who never tried to quit, isn't about to quit, and that's that. Just don't be surprised at low birth weight and other issues that EVERYONE is aware of. Best to put the baby first and if you quit don't start up after the baby is born. Didn't mean to come across as harsh, but this is one of my biggest pet peeves when women don't even try to quit (not you necessarily) and then wonder why they have complications or the baby is scawny.

Of course you CAN smoke while pregnant...but should you? absolutly not. You can do whatever you want and many woman make the choice to continue smoking but...don't know the facts of why they tell you not to.
When you smoke it goes through the placenta to the baby. What happens when someone smokes a lot? they start having a hard time breathing and get "smokers cough" right??? Well...smoking cuts off a lot of the oxygen to the baby and blogs down the supply of blood because its trying ot catch up on oxygen.
Smoking can harm your babys growth and can stunt the process of all the things that are trying to develop. I know its hard to quit but i used to smoke a pack and half a day and quit cold turkey when i found out iw as pregnant. It was REALLY hard at first but now that im 38 weeks pregnant..i dont even think about it anymore.
Try sucking on a sucker when you want to smoke. Or chewing on a straw. Those were the main things that got me through those rough few weeks at the beginning. That and thinking about my baby and how it would effect him!
Good luck and i really hope that you can stop!!! Congrats on your baby!!!

It is just as dangerous to just up and quit one day as it is to continue smoking. I smoked all through my last one. I cut way down. My doctor said that quitting could shock the babys system and cause problems, but smoking can cause low birth weight. My little girl was 7 lbs 5 oz at birth and she was completely healthy dispite my smoking. She has been less sickly as a toddler than my son was who was born 9lbs 3oz and didn't smoke at all with that one. And I'm not saying that smoking while pregnant is a good idea either. My children were not exactly planned. If I was to try to get pregnant I would quit before I tried.

How much are you smoking? How much did you smoke before you got pregnant?
My doc doesn't get too bent out of shape if I have a few cigs a week, because I cut down from 2 packs a day. But if you haven't cut down a significant amount, it is time to start.
I also can't smoke much because the smell just absolutely makes me puke! Guess you didn't have that problem, either. More details so others can answer better!

Yes, you can smoke while you're pregnant but don't stop trying to quit. It's so much better for the baby and you.
At least try to cut back until you can quit altogether. Habits are hard to break, I know, and I commend you for trying.
Best of luck and congrats!

First off, the people who are in your home should be courteous enough to smoke outside when you are pregnant. Not many people smoke inside anymore. Also, think about this....my daughter has asthma because I smoked while pregnant with her. I didn't smoke much, either. Just on occasion while stressed out etc...Now she is 9 and has to take an inhaler and nebulizer as well as other meds. It is not fair to the child. I wish I could take it back.

ARE YOU KIDDING ME. Maybe you shouldnt even be having a baby if you are so selfish to put your baby in an oxygen deprived environment. So what you are doing is pretty much the same thing as placing a plastic bag over someones head and poking a small air hole in it.
Smoking raises the levels of carbon monoxide in your bloodstream. This reduces the amount of oxygen available to your baby.
When you smoke, harmful chemicals reach your baby.
Nicotine constricts the blood vessels on your side of the placenta, which means oxygen is passed over less effectively to the baby.
The result is the baby grows less well than he might have done, and he'll be born lighter than otherwise. This might make a great difference to his health at birth.
There are also effects on brain development and on the general health of your baby, which have been shown to last into childhood, and even beyond.

its all mind over matter. i quite cold turkey when i was about three months. honestly, as much as ppl say that you shouldn't, its not really THAT big of a deal as long as your not smoking like a chimney. i dont think you're going to do alot of damage if you're only smoking maybe three a day. i would suggest to just quit though until you give birth just to be safe. good luck

Of course you should quit, your baby is ingesting that. My sister smoked a ton and when she got pregnant, she quit because she would gag at any scent of cigarettes. Hopefully that will kick in for you and it will make it that much easier to quit. Just remember that when you do quit, try to make it forever. My sister has 3 boys now and quit everytime she got pregnant but smokes again. She should have just stuck with it forever. So try puking, it works.
