I have read online sites and have tried to not sit too much, stand too much and recline, but it's not working. I am now limping because my lower back and upper legs hurt so much.

Any practical suggestions on how to relieve the pain? My preference is to take no medication, if possible.

Currently, I am 24 weeks pregnant.

I get sciatica whenever I'm pregnant. My midwife gave me this advice for relief:

Sit upright in a straight chair and cross one leg over the other (man style). Sitting as straight as you can, push down on the knee of the leg that is crossed. This takes pressure off the sciatic nerve for a while and will give you some relief. Do this exercise on whatever side is bothering you.

You might also see a chiropractor - I've never tried this but I have two friends that have gotten relief from this condition by seeing a chiropractor.

Best of luck and congratulations!

I've been battling sciatica for close to a decade, after a minor car accident, and I had tried everything the doc threw at mepills, injections, special mattresses This guide was extremely eye opening and within one week of the regimen you gave me I can barely feel any discomfort. You have no idea how much of a relief it is to be finally getting rid of a pain I've had to bear for so many years.

Around this same time I started having pain in my thighs, pelvic bone and tailbone. I told my doctor about it and she blew it off as being normal so I did some research on my own. I found a condition called Symphysis Pubic Dysfunction and the symptoms were exactly how I was feeling. I told my doctor about it and she said that is exactly what I am experiencing. When you are pregnant, your body releases a hormone called relaxin to open your pubic bone area in preparation for delivery. However with SPD, your body releases too much of the hormone too early and this is what causes the pain. My doctor told me there is not much you can do for it. She advises to take tylenol 4 times daily and to avoid lots of walking, heavy lifting, and strenuous activity. You can get a pelvic belt to take some of the pressure off of the pubic area. I'm 35 weeks pregnant and I have been off work since I was about 28 weeks pregnant because of this. It got so unbearable I could barely walk by the end of the day at work without crying! I've also heard you can try physio but you need to find a specialist you deals with pregnancy. I hope this helps. Ask your doctor about it and good luck!

The only thing I've found which relieves my sciatica pain (when it's bad) is acupuncture. I was a skeptic at first, but I was desperate and willing to try anything. It was borderline miraculous how well it worked.

the pregnancy cuts out most of my suggestions.

try lying on the floor with your legs bent and up on the couch.

It is probably a result of the extra weight from pregnancy.

If you can, lay on the floor, grab behind your knees, curl up a bit and rock back and forth 10-20 times. That usually works the kinks out of my back.
