For me, the United State's Constitution defines the American nation. Gives it a since of unity.
Technically, it defines how the executive, legislator, and judicial branches work. Also, it is the supreme law of the country and all laws and governmental powers are derive from it. Since it was created there have been 27 Amendments. Including the 1st, freedom of religion, press.. The 13th, abolish slavery. The 19th, gave women the right to vote.

The constitution is a set of rules and laws the are to be followed by the government(s), as well as the people.
The general guidelines go back to the Magna Carta which was the law of the land in Britan.
Probably the finast document ever written and much credit goes to Thomas Jefferson.

Because it is "the law of the land." In the first 10 amendments, the bill of rights, it clearly outlines the rights guaranteed to all and states that these rights cannot be infringed upon. All laws are based off of this.

Because it established the first government in the history iof the world that firmly rested that power of government in the hands of its citizens. It changed the world. It is the model for all democracies that succeeded it.
Now if only the people would assume that power!

It sets limits on what the federal and state governments may do to you, or each other, or to the branches between the government.
In short, it is the corner stone of our laws and legal system.
