You find a wallet with a couple of thousand dollars in it, do you turn it in, or would you take the cash and ditch the wallet? I would turn it in.

That's a good question, and it can be looked at from a couple if not a few standpoints. Take the spiritual standpoint, you have been praying for a way to make ends meet, and then come across this wallet full of money, say, just lying on a sidewalk being passed by others until you come along and claim it. Now, do you see that as a sign from God, an answer to your prayer, or do you turn it in and hope that God rewards you for your honesty? Perhaps the person to whom the wallet belongs will give you a monetary reward and maybe he won't. If the wallet had picture ID, credit cards, etc., then yes, I would turn it in. But if the wallet only had the cash, no ID, no cards, then I would keep it and consider it the answer to my prayers. I have heard of turning in property to the police and if the property is not claimed in 30 to 60 days, then you can claim the property. Now, what's to stop an officer from claiming that property for himself. Why block your possibly blessing for someone else's gain. If there is no one else around and no identifying materials found in or on the wallet, I'm considering it all blessings.

If i lost my wallet i would hope (probably little) to get it back from someone. Similarly, I would like to return the wallet if i found it (I expect them to be looking for it). I have returned a lost cell phone :) I found it left in the table of my work place, it i know i could crush the card and enjoy my new cell phone but na coz i don't expect anybody else doing that with me.
I had found the cell phone under the table of my workplace, i remember that night she looked drunk( the way teens get drunk LOL) and i guess she dropped it. Then next morning, i called her in home phone (got it from cell)...she didn't even know she had lost her cell LOL!

Depends on where i find the wallet. And if i'm really desperate for the money or something. Maybe take the money and return the wallet. I don't know, knowing myself turn it both in. Depends on my mood i guess.

Honesty never got me anywhere. At this point, I'd take the money and run.

If the wallet was a Dooney and Bourke I'd take it too ! That would add another $150.00 to the find.

This happened to me once - I lost my wallet just b4 going on holidays - heaps of money in it. Couple of hours later I got a phone call - someone had handed it in to my work, nothing missing. That definitely restored my faith in human nature. Since then I live by the Golden Rule: Do unto others.... y'know.
