they wood avoid the star of David because they are not believers of Catholicism. So when some pulls a cross out they wood simply ignore it and suck them dry:)

All vampires avoid crosses.
The crosses, the stake, UV(ultraviolet) light and fire are things that they avoid, because those things are weapons that can be used against them. Garlic is used to avoid them, but it not a weapon.
