In the wake of the Virginia Tech atrosity, what else has to happen in order to make Americans seriously look at our gun control laws. I understand hunters need to hunt and they can all keep there rifles and shotguns. Sorry but the uzi's and automatic weapons need to go away.
Also we need a little more then a green card, checkbook, and a water bill to buy a gun.
And lets get rid of all the metal detectors infront of congress and the whitehouse. Let the people who make these ridiculous laws go to work like the rest of us do.
I understand the right to bear arms, howerver if you read a little further, it means americans have the right to form a militia. So that we could go fight the army if need be. Well if civilian had to go up against the army today, it would be as ridiculous as hunting a deer with a uzi.
Can we please try to learn and grow from this horrific event?

The reason we have guns is to be able to overthrow the government should it become oppressive I don't want to fight against a M-16 with a rock.

The US already has gun control laws. The point of gun control is to limit the types of weapons available legally, and the question is how strict those laws should be, not if guns should be removed. Yes there are people who think and advocate the removal off all guns, just as there are ones who think no laws should be in place, but the real debate of merit is in between. I mean, a country with no guns is a pipe dream, but a place where Joe-every-man can get himself a high powered military grade machine gun with armor piercing rounds for no other reason but he can is equally as stupid. To elaborate more, a country with hunting, marksmanship sports and clubs that doesn't have guns available to them is laughable, but on the other hand if a person should be able to have any gun they want, why not tanks, surface to air missiles or nukes? Many countries have strict gun laws but low shooting homicide rates, so why can they and others can't? They still have guns, but can count the amount of mass gun homicide events on two hands for their entire modern history. Hell, the country I was born the cops dont even carry guns!! That is left to the rapid response units similar to the US Swat initiatives. With the outlaw of all or some guns, I think it is right to assume that dodgy operators will flood the illegal markets with those weapons rather than destroy them at their own loss of profit, but more guns is not a better answer. 6 of one, half a dozen of the other really. I won't even begin to think of a solution, there is just too many people with different views arguing the merits of far too many ideas for there to ever be a fix to something as big as this. I would like to see a world where these tragic shooting events don't happen, but who the he'll knows how that will ever happen

If guns were allowed on this campus, perhaps, there would have been a law abiding gun carrying citizen around to take this crazy gut out.
Crazy people with an agenda and criminals set on a crime do not obey laws and would get a gun in spite of the law.
Just like drug addicts can get illegal drugs.
The people who are responsible and obey the gun laws are the only ones effected from banning guns.
The largest school autocracies was in 1918 in Chicago where a deranged person used dynamite to bomb a newly opened school. 68 children died. He also called himself an anacrhist. Should we have baned dynamite?
Was this deranged murder in VA using an automatic weapon or Uzi?? Quit using every disaster as an excuse for banning guns. Also I haven't surrendered to an oppressive government.
quite yet. Too bad that you have already given up. You would make a good Nazi or communist. They didn't allow guns either. Just another brick in the wall.

I agree that the Virginia incident is horrific.
However, tighter gun laws will not curb such incidents.
When someone comes to the unfortunate point of breaking, and going completely psycho, they are going to do just that.
Short of predicting the future and apprehending violent criminals before they act, it is unreasonable to think we can prevent the act.
I believe that if a person gets it in his/her head to do something "crazy," they will find a way to do it. If they can't find a gun, they'll build a bomb, etc...
The best prevention I can think of is in how we raise our children. I am not saying that this guy's parents, or any other criminals' parents, are responsible for the acts of their offspring. I am saying that we owe it to ourselves, our children and our communities to raise good citizens.

seems six years of fascist oppression in america isn't enough to wake some people up. our right to arms precedes the us constitution. isn't it a good thing? if not for guns in the hands of patriots, there would be a union jack flying outside your junior high school. read some of those books.

We take it very serious. It is a bad idea to even consider gun control. You take everyones guns and then only the criminals will have them. I have several and I will never give them up.

I take it quite seriously. I seriously resist any efforts at creating more useless gun laws.

I agree with you to a point. No civilian should have access to rapid fire arms. To have a hunting shotgun or rifle doesn't mean that you are any safer though. They have also been used to kill people.
Who knows the answer? Americans love their guns! It seems that we will never rid ourselves of all the guns in this country. But we should try to keep the really dangerous ones out of the hands of civilians.
