the fan seems to be running,but it still is running hot

Really, the only way to ensure that what you are hearing is the fan and not the hard drive or the Optical drive spinning up, is to feel around the vent area if you cannot see the fans themselves.

If you feel air blowing, then it is working.

But you still should get a can of compressed air to blow out the dust on the inside of those vents. A thin layer of dust on a heatsink severely reduces it's ability to dissipate heat properly.

put your hand to the vent at the back and feel for air coming out, if you can hear the fan it should be okay, i just got a vaio, is this a problem with them or a one off? do you use it on your knee because the vents on the bottom need to be kept clear as well
