You are all acting like I don't want the drinking age raised- actually- I would be fine with raising the driving age to 18, guns and drinking to 24 or 25...

Well drunk drivers kill far more people than licensed gun owners for a start.
EDIT: We're nuts? You can't raise a responsible child and somehow that makes us nuts.

Actually the drinking age should be 25 or maybe 35.
As far as being able to buy a gun at 18. As long as you have
the price I know 1000's of places where you can buy a gun at
any age. Any large city street corner.

Kinda makes you wonder doesn't it? You can be sent to die for your country at age 17 but you can't buy a beer!
Lets admit it, people don't consider an 18 year old mature enough to drink & in some cases they are right. On the other hand you can find plenty of old drunks that don't show any maturity either!
Perhaps people just want to protect the youth under age 21 & that isn't all bad. By the same token, we should stop sending 18 year olds to war, no one sent to kill another before he/she is 21!

You can buy a rifle at 18, but must be 21 to own a hand gun and if you're insinuating the legal drinking age should be higher I agree.
Alcohol related fatalities are quite a bit higher than gun related fatalities in the U.S..
Alcohol clouds judgment guns don't.

Well I had a gun safety class when I was 12. I wasnt taught to drive until i was 15-16. But no one taught me how much beer to drink or not.
Maybe you can start some classes on educating people about drinking ;P

because a gun won't impair a persons judgment like alcohol will. and most 21 year olds can't handle there liquor anyway, let alone get in a car and drive.
if you have the sense to buy a gun at 18 you should be able to understand the responsibly of owning said gun, and the consequences of using it to protect ones self.

i think that there are alot of things wrong with the drinking age being so high. if you look at other countries and their young adults, you see alot less binge drinking and consumation of alcohol in moderation. im in college and my first semester, alcohol was so easily obtained that i went wild and was drunk nearly every night. i think that if the drinking age were lower and teenagers are taught to drink in moderation, that there would be less drunk driving related accidents and less alcoholism. you will never be able to prevent underage drinking no matter how low the age is, but i think it is unwise to have the age so high. usa has one of the highest LDA's in the world. want a solution to the problem? make the purchasing age 21 and the LDA 18.

Absolutely not! In fact, in many countries where the drinking age is lower, there are less deaths due to binge drinking, drunk driving and guns! Go figure. The problem in the US is that we don't have the public transportation and concentrated cities that Europe has. I don't think we are society who is willing to teach our kids to "drink responsibly" and we just forbid it, sending our kids into drunken frat parties with no protection. We also all have some strange fear of walking alone at night (myself included).Young people have to have cars here in US to get around, and that causes problems.

because even people with common sense who know that guns are dangerous still get drunk. so really buying a gun when you're 18, you're old enough to understand that guns are a very dangerous thing and they are meant to be treated seriously. while some people drink beer or alcohol anytime they feel. i can say from personal experience its a lot easier to get drunk than it is to fire a gun unsafely.

I agree, it should be 25 for beer and guns (raising the drinking age would actually prevent more deaths since there would be fewer drunk driving fatalities).
