my son is 5weeks old, everytime he wakes up, he sucks on his fingers, letting me know that is hungry. I have upped his ounces to 5 ounces. But he still is hungry, i had a friend tell me to put a teaspoon of cereal in his formula to fill him up more. I don't know that i should.

i can relate to you very well. my 4 month old has always been a big eater. at 3 weeks old i was putting 3 tsps. of cereal in his bottle at his 2 late night feedings. that still didn't help. by 3 months he was eating 8 oz. every 3 hrs. my advice, buy more bottles and keep plenty of formula on hand. feed the baby and enjoy a chunky baby

No, you shouldn't put cereal in his bottle unless directed to do so by a doctor (who will only recommend it in cases of reflux). Put enough formula in his bottle so that there is some left at the end of the feeding and let him decide when he has had enough by turning away from the bottle. And remember that with babies, putting things into their mouth isn't always an indication of hunger, it is their way of exploring their world. He will continue to put anything and everything he can get his hands on into his mouth throughout his first year to year and a half of life.

there are mixed thoughts on putting cereal in a bottle. any doctor i've ever talked to says not to do it. it's a choking hazard (especially with a baby that young!). i've known a lot of mothers who do it, not until the baby is older (3-4 months) though. i would just try upping the ounces again. try 6 or 8. or you could try asking your pediatrician for advice.

do not put cereal in the bottle, thatrs a choking hazard and can lead to childhood obesity. ALso when putting cereal in teh bottle it takes away some of the nutrients he would be getting from the formula because obviously u would be cutting back on the formula he wants. Just let him feed till hes full, i did it with my daughter, she ate like a cow but now as a toddler she hardly eats, go figure right. when in doubt always call your pediatrician, they know much better than anyone else

yes if you can tell your baby is still hungry, at 5 weeks you should keep feeding him. Ive heard about putting cereal in the formula too but ive never tried it.

Don't add anything to the formula. Entertain him. Don't feed him when he "seems" to hungry. He is looking for attention a bottle isn't the best attention it teaches them to rely on eating as a comfort. Call his doctor to see if you can put him a schedule for his eating.

no no on the cereal. his lil tummy is not ready for that. not till 6 months. 4 months at the very earliest! just give him as much formula as he wants. It may be 7 or 8 oz, just give him what he wants but only fomula.
good luck
