Prenatal vitamins are great for taking before you get pregnant, and at the very least you should take a folic acid supplement. That helps prevent spinal cord malformations in a growing baby (namely spina bifida), and starting before you get pregnant ensures that you will have high folic acid throughout your pregnancy.

Hi there!
I too am trying to conceive and have just started a prenatal vitamin. Prenatal vitamins are a really good idea as they provide all the nutrients you need and can stop the baby getting spina bifida and other problems. You are supposed to start taking them at least three months before you start trying to conceive but better late than never!
Good luck =)

Prenatal vitamins are normally safe and would not harm your system if taken with food. If you are very sensitive, or allergic to the composition of the tablets, you might have some slight stomach upset or so. This is normal. If you feel that the side effects are persistent, see a doc. The gud thing about the prenatals are, it provides all the essential nutrients for the baby, like the folic acid, Iron etc.

It's always better to be prepared. Prenatal vitamins have Folic Acid in them, which doctors want you to take prior to conception.

Yes. It is a good idea to build a good nutritional base if you are trying to conceive. Plus- by the time you find out you are pregnant, usually about 6 weeks have passed. A lot of development goes on in those first several weeks, go ahead and make sure you are taking in the vitamins and minerals that your baby needs for optimal development.

Yes definitely take them. Because you would have no idea what vitamins/minerals your body is lacking.
I know a girl who was seriously lacking folic acid and she had to abort a baby because it's brain was growing on the outside of it's skull. She was told that if she had of been taking folic acid this may have been avoided.

You are advised to take prenatal vitamins if you are trying to fall pregnant. Especially folate which can prevent neural tube defects such as spina bifida. These defects can occur very soon after conception so it is always a good idea to take folate early. Good luck!
