wild bunnies go out on their own VERY small, the nest full under my kitchen window bailed out and left at about 3 inches long (maybe a tad less I am estimating). Either let him go again immediately or check your phone book for a wildlife rehabilitator. Rabbits DIE easily of stress and sudden captivity is stress to the max so the chances of you managing to do anything but stress him to death are slim.

If you are really worried, you should take your rabbit to a vet for a check up. It would be a good idea anyway since the rabbit is new in your home and it would give you a chance to establish a relationship with a vet. Here is an article with information on helping you decide if your rabbit is sick:

Please be sure to go to a vet that knows rabbits - check here for vets: http://www.rabbit.org/faq/sections/vet.html
I would not keep him in a hamster cage - that is too small for a rabbit.
some ideas for housing: http://homepage.mac.com/mattocks/morfz/rabcare.html#house
Hope your bunny is ok

He might be too young to be apart from his family and is just shutting down. I've raised wild bunnies before and it's hard to tell if they are totally scared to death. I don't think you should do any thing but let the bunny get used to it's new situation. It always is up to them what happens.

Feed it kitten formula, it's the closest to mother's milk, a dropper full once in the morning and once at night, that's how they feed in the wild. They also sell baby bunny formula at Petco and PetSmart. Start giving him larger doses as he is getting bigger. Start with rabbit food pellets 'till he's 8 wks. old. That's when they ween in nature.

He may be too young for solid food yet. Take him to a vet or if it's a wild rabbit, to a wildlife rescuer.
Never take baby bunnies from outdoors even if you think its abandoned!!!! The mom will come back for them!!

Bare patches with no fur on the body, and ears that don't look very good.Try taking to the vet.
It is not ideal to keep a wild pet,or try finding a home for it if you think it was lost.
