During my period I get cold. I can be wrapped up in two fleece blankets and be warm one minute and the next I'm suddenly shivering. This happens a lot at night too and i find myself waking up curled up in a ball and sometimes shivering even though I'm still wrapped up. What's causing this and how can I fix it? I heard it has something to do with iron but what foods have iron in them?
Also I get very emotional during my period and start crying even if I get yelled at a little bit. I can't help myself is there something I can do for that? Its been bugging me and I'm starting to stress out more than ever during this time of month.

All of that sounds like normal period behavior. Being cold and having mood swings are typical behaviors. I can always tell when mine is coming because I tear up during sappy commercials and can't stop the goosebumps. I've never heard that this was caused by an iron deficiency, but if that's the case, be careful about taking iron. It is hard to dissolve in the body and can build up. Also, taking too much of it can be fatal, so definitely see your doctor before you set up any kind of vitamin schedule.

Although these are typical symptoms of that time of the month, they can go too far. My sister had major mood swings and an irregular cycle, and she had to take birth control pills to kind of settle everything down. Many women and teens take birth control for this reason. If you feel that your mood swings are abnormal, make an appointment with your gynecologist. In fact, you may want to give them a call and ask them about it anyway, just to see what they say.

Good luck.

Those are normal symptoms fro PMS and your menstrual cycle. The cause is your hormones. Your iron levels are lower during this time of the month. I would start taking foods with more iron consistently.

Below is a link that has information on foods that contain iron.

women lose alot of bloon on the cycle. YOu could becoming anemic and need to take an iron supplement. Have your doctor do a lab and check you iron, ferritin and your rbc counts. Dark green veggies and organ meats are very high in iron. Legumes/beans are a source of iron as well.

I'm fairly sure there's medicine for the mood-swings you're experiencing.

As for the cold, I believe it may have to do with your iron levels. When you have your period, your iron levels decrease, and as such your ability to keep warm decreases. As for foods with iron, most foods have it, but greens like spinach and broccoli tend to have a lot of it. Try and eat things with lots of iron just before and during your period, it may help.

It's hormones and there's not much you can do about them. Depending on your age, you might have a long time that you're going to have to deal with this.
