How could this happen? Why did this happen? Because...this is completely shady. Can we really believe this is just some random incident considering the handling of the whole situation (as seen on the news and other media)? There are plenty of questions about this tragedy that should demand answers! Why? Why were there classes in session at the time of the second round of shootings? How was this person able to do such a thing earlier in the morning and return 2 hours after, seemingly with out security/police sweeping the campus? without almost anyone having been notified? a "technical school" doesn't have the technology to get the word out within 2 hours that something terrible has happened, that there is potential danger? The officials were too shaken and startled to consider closing campus, cancelling classes, etc. in that time? Pleeease! All we can gather is what we're told, and that shouldn't be good enough. It does NOT make sense. Any of it.

I think the police were focused on the first incident - the murder of the first 2 people - and thinking it was a murder caused by someone involved personally with one or both of the first 2 victims, not even thinking for a minute there was a lunatic loose on campus who would lay low for a couple of hours and then kill 30 more people before committing suicide.
I don't know how the police could have seen it coming, because they had no idea there was a guy running around on campus who wrote about blood and gore and had bought 2 weapons recently, along with a lot of ammo. Maybe there should be a law about such things - you buy a gun and the info is immediately sent to local authorities. That would have been the only way police could have had an inkling that something was going to happen.

Horrible! Sad! Tragic! Disturbing! However, the worst thing about all of this is that it WILL happen again. People keep asking why, as they usually do when these events happen, and you get a laundry list of answers from it's the NRA's fault to Cho was insane. NONE of these answers the why question. What answers the why question is that we never remember or learn from the past. Maybe if we spent more time reading history books, becoming involved, imagining and thinking AND less time reading the Bible, being self involved, sublimating and watching the talking heads/celebrities, then we might actually learn something and remember it before we let something like this happen again. Imagine if someone had encouraged Hitler's art, we may have never known the Holocaust. WE should think about the ramifications we visit on ourselves and others when we choose to ignore, be negligent, betray, be foolish, steal, cheat, follow the group, deceive, not stand up, you name it.

I live in Virginia and its particularly hard for me and my friends to deal with this tragedy because it hits so close to home. I know people who have had their relatives killed or severly injuried from jumping out of the building or being shot. Its so sad that one person could be so selfish and kill 32 people. I mean, I don't think there is anyone else to blame but him. I don't appreciate people trying to rationalize this massacre by saying he was a loner and he didn't have many friends. People did recognize that he was dangerous, but he didn't talk, so there was no way to help him. Mental illness is a reason not and excuse for these type of situations and we shouldn't try to lessen the severity of this massacre by making this violent murdered a victim himself.
Words cannot describe the grief and pain the families of the victims feel. Hearing the stories of the victims and seeing their friends makes the pain that worse. This is a tragedy will always be part of U.S. History and will stay in the hearts and minds of the Hookie Nation and the rest of Virginia. May God bless those who have passed on April 16, 2007.

The occurrence was horribly mismanaged by the administration. Given the 2 hours in between the shootings, it is simply inexcusable that the university was not put into lockdown. The second shooting could have been prevented, and 30 innocent young lives spared. I'm not putting blame on the president - I go a large university as well and I know how difficult it is to alert the authorities on a large campus, especially given the widespread panic that must have ensued. But the university authorities will experience a hellish backlash in the next few days, mark my words, because they absolutely could have done in prevention and protection of their staff and students. Ignorance is never an excuse for indifference.

This terrible event shows time and time the lack of respect of human life.We find in general that that will be many issues that are in content. gun control, the ability of foreign nationals to settle down here and the stress and anxiety here. But this incident preceeds all comprehension and understanding.Totally .To kill inoncent people who have the joy and the will even it makes it all the more painful.Yes the disabled count too
When death occurs, it is the realtives , friends and love ones that suffer. Was is the point of taking one's life be it if he is your enemy or not.you take someone's life and life will have to carry on but who do u think are the real sufferers. The victims suffered a small moment and now they are in heaven's bright glory but the their love one. families have to continue to live Yes till their end of loves where they be liberated by the light. But do u think they will live the same way they used too.Rare and its seldom happens
To claim one's personal problem as a cause for killing innoncent people is even more sickening as it has no more political social or cultural implication. It means it gets only personal and that is selfish to do the desired things against the expense of others. Now say again how selfish can one be
Just a week ago, those innoncent victim might have been kicking, playing laughing ,a round of soccer with a ball with thre love ones, a simple chat or a meal with a classmate. Now this cannot happen anymore because life has been snuffed out
We can only know remember and recall those times and memories those peopel might have share with the victims.but that us not sufficient a memory is not real it is only a mirage something that is not real. How much they treasure those moments now
The worse thing was however when he comitted suicide in the campus. It is totally uncesasary as he would have been better he took teh rap for his action.again sucide is the lost of another life and is morally wrong against all faiths and religons in the world
Applause and praise must be given to those victims who died in tehri line of duty or saved an extra few student lives. These students will not forget you and I, Legolas salute and take my hat off to u.it is an undescriable act of heroism and bravery-something that will be told from generation to generation. the sme goes to the survivors and people who helped in one way or another
This event will serve as a timely reminder the right of humans to love in indominable and personal desires or hatred should not take place at the expense of others-what more their lives. It si sad and timely reminder that will always be remembered in time to come not jsuta s the worst gun accident by far but how the human spirit was wounded by someone with selfish and evil interest
Life is not cruel it is certain invididual who make it so and thi isso unfortunate
Rest in peace 32 people and to Cho u had better hope the father 's forgiveness and his favour that rest on you still count but i believe justice will be paid and cho will be duely punsihed eternally

This is for sure one of th worst things that I have seen in my life... I think that this was unpreventable to a point. That guy was going to snap no matter what. It was a matter of time before something in that guys head just clicked. The news casters say that in most of his classwork writtings there was violent content and to me that is just a big warning sign. Yes, the police could have done more to prevent that second shooting but that campus is 2,600 acres. They had no idea that there would be a second shooting. Things could have been different, but they are not. The fact still stands that it is done and nothing can be done now.

First it's the schools and families responsibility to get to somewhat know the person so saying the authorities should have seen it coming makes no sense.
Idiots that say they aren't really moved by this are or saddened are the very reason these things keep happening.
Until the U.S. gets real and admits we have a huge violence problem nothing will change; we should stop wondering how to try to limit or stop something like this because you can't stop it in a free and open society. What we can do is make sure we raise good people from children, and not self absorbed materialistic young adults that think they are always being victimized if they dont' get what they want or their way.
The U.S. is self absorbed. If it doesn't effect people personally, not much is done.

It reminded me of a killing spree in the early 1980s on and around the Cleveland State University campus. In that case, one individual - over seven months - murdered three people and attempted to kill two others.
With campuses that have multiple buildings spread over acreage it is virtually impossible to plan for every scenario that a twisted mind could come up with - and the VT killer was as far from rational as a person possibly could be.
I always fear that in such cases that those who are truly evil may try to "copycat" in some way and I hope that isn't the case.

I think it's so sad in every way.
What happened to him to drive him to do this?
Was he teased horribly by other students?
Wasn't accepted by anyone?
Simply pushed aside and labeled an outcast?
Abused as a child?
So alone he must have been.
Then all these innocent men and women who've lost their life.
A life that they were building on for a better future.
And all the families who have to endure days of suffering.
Could the campus police and law enforcement done a better job?
Why did it take so long after the first poeple were killed?
A lot of unanswered questions.
My thoughts and prayers are with them all.....
