It is perfectly fine to feel numb or indifferent to this kind of thing, if you don't have a personal connection to anyone over there. There are alot worse things going on around the world that do not get the obscene amount of media coverage that this shooting gets. I don't really care about it either, that doesn't make me a bad person. It's hard for me to feel bad for people that are not close to me like my family and friends, although I feel concerned about the state of mankind.
If some of those victims had reasons to die like this then they got what they deserved, and I would only feel bad for the truly innocent ones. We are all different, so don't let some uneducated person here tell you that you are a jerk or anything else, because they claim to be 'good people' because they care about VA tech, yet, they don't care for you and don't want to sympathize or even understand your point of view, which makes them the ones that are close minded and horrible. It seems you would have to die for people like them to care about you. They are just jumping on the sympathy bandwagon.

What do you think? Do you think of yourself as a cold and heartless person? Do you usually react this way to tragedies? Or are you just numb at the number of deaths in this incident? Sometimes people do have trouble reacting if they hear that thousands of people died in an earthquake on the other side of the world, but they get upset if they see their neighbor's puppy run over by a car. Maybe this event has reached that kind of scale for you.

If I knew you I would be very concerned about you. Only a person with a heart of stone could NOT be affected by this tragic event.
Do you have a family who would mourn your loss if you had been one of the victims? I hope you do. If not maybe thay is why you feel this way. I hope those who read your questiion say a prayer for you when they pray for those involved in Virginia

Nothing. Like poet Nikki Giovanni said at the Tech remembrance ceremony today, it's just more stupid, senseless death. It's impossible to rationalize; it's death for no reason, and death for no reason happens all over the world every day in numbers and tragedies greater than Virginia Tech's: African kids starving and dying of AIDS, tsunamis, floods, earthquakes, natural disasters of all kinds, genocide, domestic violence, hate crimes, you name it.

Not enough information to tell me anything about you. There are sorts of reasons a person might not "care." Anything from not being in the mood, to having other things on your mind, to having no conscience.

You've never lost a loved one or someone who was close to you.
You haven't felt the grief these families are feeling-so it's hard for you to care.

It probably means you could use some serious counseling, sooner rather than later. To have no feelings of empathy is one of the signs of someone with serious emotional problems, perhaps someone capable of committing violence himself. So do yourself and society a favor and get yourself checked out.

That you don't have an emotional connection to them. I feel sorry for what happened, but don't feel the kind of emotional distress I would feel if I lost friends or loved ones of my own. But, you should at least feel SOMETHING!

I bet you'd change your tune if someone you knew had been killed at Virginia Tech. So you can only feel something when it personally affects you? That makes you a narcissist. And a pig, in my opinion.
