If there is a murder in your city do you stay home from work or school? How would anyone know that such a tragedy was about to take place? It was horrible but as far as I know crystal balls don't work and Monday morning quarterbacks are a dime a dozen.

The school was trying to figure out what had happened at the first location and determine what happened, was it a shooter or murder suicide and did one of the two victims at the dorm do the shooting. By the time a decision was made to alert students (2 hours later, not a lot of time to figure out what was going on) the second event was happening. Keep in mind a college campus is huge, some are several miles long from end to end. There is not a clear cut way to just tell everybody to go home or inform them what has happened in a fast manner. And you have commuter students driving on and off campus all day long as well.

In my opinion, because teachers have been given the opportunity to get safety drill info after Columbine, they were safer in the classrooms. Columbine was my term paper presentation in college (yup). for my first teachers ed class.
That's why the Professor knew to block the door?
If you present chaos without knowing where the shooter is you may have more victims. Texas. The gunman had a rifle and shot in the lawn areas at random. Public education system does not handle 20,ooo plus adults in over 100 separate facilities. Commuter students and others. Then you get spectators on site and add to the totals.
I believe in the course of action the VTech President took.

I don't know except for the fact it is a huge campus with over 100 buildings and 26,000 students. I think with only 2 people being killed at first, they had to be thinking it was someone personally involved with 1 or both of the first victims, not someone who would wait a couple of hours and then kill again. If the first shooting would have taken place in an academic center, it would have been different, I suppose. At least I would hope it would have been. There are a million complex questions with this situation and no easy answers.

It was strange-but then again where would have all those people went? That campus is the size of a small city. Alot were already at the school, alot were on the way to school, alot were in the dorms where the shooter also had attacked. What were they suppose to do? Go to the mall?

I heard their explanation that at first they assumed it was a domestic dispute, I don't know why they should assume anything. As long as the gunman was at large, the campus should have been under lockdown. The decision not to lockdown was by police and campus brass. The police themselves when notified of more shootings in classrooms, immediately entered the building (unlike Columbine).

They were stupid not to do that. But, like the lady said, she thought they were safe in the class rooms, maybe they should have told them to lock all doors or something. Sad situation.

if a person dies, either by his own hand or someone else's, they don't like to change the school routine. some other students see that as power and try to repeat the act to give themselves the same power. they also don't have funerals or anything that will close school so as not to give anyone the idea that they might have the power to close school.

I honestly don't know. I've been asking myself that ALL day. Not to mention watching it on the news and all....so tragic, so scary, and the shooter was so stupid. My heart goes out to all of those affected!!
