I'm serious. Who's gonna rob a bank if there are thirty armed customers inside? That kid in Virg. Tech would have been stopped after he shot the first kid. Yeah, it'd take people some getting used to, thinning the herd and all that, but you'd have alot less crime and more responsible citizens after the first year that the law was passed. Who's crazy, limp wristed casper milqtoast? or ME.

Terry - That's what I meant by thinning the herd. Besides, the innocent bystanders would be able to pull their piece and shoot back. A whole new firearm etiquette would evolve. We'd also become better shots.

All I know for sure is the Marshalls of the old west towns found that if they made the men check their side arms when they came town and get them back when they left . It made for a safer town.
This is an answer I gave to a question about guns.
People debate gun control with comments like guns don't kill people, people kill people. Partially they are right.
But what really causes, in my opinion, guns being used to kill people is our society's attitude towards guns.
Somewhere along through the years a gun has become classified and refered to as a weapon. Believe it or not in the 1950's when I was in high school a gun was classified as a tool, to protect your family and home, put food on the table or as a piece of sporting equipment like a fishing rod or a bowling ball.
Almost every pickup truck in town had a gun rack in the back window at all times with a 30/30, a 22 and a shotgun mounted there. You would, on a friday night, see many of these trucks parked outside of the local bars. Inside their owners were getting drunk and there were always fights. Never in 20 years that I know of did any one of those in these fights go out to their truck and get their gun to kill or maime someone.
The only place at that time that a gun was called a weapon was the military. The police didn't even call it a weapon. As long as our mindset is that a gun is a weapon people will keep killing people and no amount of gun control will stop it.

You, obviously. The kid who massacred everyone yesterday legally purchased legal weapons. As far a we know, he had no prior criminal record. Therefore, he was your classic law abiding gun lover . . . until he snapped. Do people like him seem rational to you? If he's not rational, if he's willing/wanting to die, why would the possibility that someone around him also had a gun stop him?
There are a lot of sick people like him out there, and if you encourage them to carry guns, you better believe they will.
And consider it from a law enforcement point of view. To his surprise, the guy sitting in for Glen Beck last night didn't get a positive response to this idea from a cop he was interviewing. As the cop put it, what happens in a situation when the police arrive and there are five or six people shooting? Who do they kill? Everyone with a gun? And in the madness of this kind of situation, who does the average citizens shoot at? Say you see someone aiming to shoot someone else. Do you shoot him? Maybe he's aiming at the killer. Talk about a friendly fire nightmare. But I guess that's what you call "thinning out the herd." Real life isn't like the movies where it's easy to tell the good guys from the bad guys.

No, u might feel safer but u would actually be less safe if yourself and everyone around u carried guns. The less gun the less shootings. I know that if a deranged shooter really wants to go shoot up a place u could not prevent it by tougher gun laws but still the less guns in circulation, the less people that are killed by guns, just look at how many shootings there are in the UK or Australia, and they have tough guns laws. I live in Australia and no one I have ever known has wanted or even seen a gun, because the only people that have them are mostly farmers, so u never feel the need to protect yourself with one.

Mainly, if everyone carried a gun then the gullible and stupid AmeriKan people who want to do away with handguns would be in grave danger of being enslaved by the government... the same government that has been taking away their constitutional rights for the past 40 YEARS...
Only a FOOL would want a society where the only guns were in the hands of the Military, the Police and the THUGS.

"Thinning the herd"??? Are you serious??? And what about that first year you talk about? How much crime would there be during that time? If you honestly think this plan of your would work, you should take a good look at yourself.

The more lawful Americans carry, the safer I feel. Your question seems to infer that "cons" are all gringos. Is that it, Holmes?

if everyone carried a gun, people would be more prone to use them if they got mad...
and in this case, its a matter of who whips our their gun first...
thats a bad idea..
