Both is acceptable spelling. But "gray" is better for the color. As for "grey" is like a person last name.

It depends where your from. In the U.S.A. it's spelled "gray". In Canada and I guess England too it's spelt grey.
All countries took/ take different words and spelling of words from different countries.

I went to a website that shows the use of both when referring to this color. But it did seem to lean towards the G R A Y spelling.

Technically, it's gray. "Grey" is actually a surname. I.E.: "Earl Grey," "Grey Poupon," etc.
